"You're not upbeat! Bad music!"

This is amusing [livejournal.com profile] omly a fair bit. You can tell I'm still adjusting my wordless upbeat playlist. :) (and I largely notice that a song doesn't fit when I start feeling sleepy)

I would swear that I owned some. Maybe they're just not on my iPad. Will have to check my backup when I get home, or possibly my CDs...

On the plus side, I now have a _different_ earmworm (and not multiple, thankfully).

I was not... the most aware of popular music at the time, I don't remember precisely what year I first went (but probably had my first year been when the RAs were screwing with the music at dances, given all but my last summer were in Lancaster and my last summer was in '92 - possibly in Baltimore? Something closer to NH, at any rate, than Lancaster was, and that had just opened that year), and my youngest sister also went, so last time I tried to do this (before there were compilations of CTY canon on youtube) I enlisted her help which meant that her canon and my canon got mixed up in my head.

That sentence is a bit of a mouthful. Ah, well.

And, of course, it wasn't _called_ canon then, either!

One of these years I will figure out what periodically causes me to hunt down CTY stuff. It is _absurdly_ much easier to find stuff online now than last time I tried!

Now I want to try to figure out when I first went. It's possible, but not definite, that my parents would know. I _am_ a middle child of 6, and all.

[ETA] I used to have a tape that someone made for me, possibly my first time there. That's what turned into canon in my brain, since it was easily available at the time. But that tape is _long_ gone, unless it's somewhere in the frightening place that is the storage in the barn...

I'm coming to the conclusion that I need to make myself an upbeat playlist to use while I grade. At the moment, it's tiny, and includes Colbie Caillat's album "All of You" and song "Try", "Say Hey (I Love You)" by Michael Franti & Spearhead, and "Take Me To Church" by Hozier. (all added to my music collection recently)

I'm going to go hunt through my existing collection also, but I was curious if any of you have suggestions for songs you tend to think of as especially upbeat songs?

Another song in my list of 'songs I've known forever and comfort me to sing to myself' that I forgot to list (but not to sing) last night: Rainbow Connection.

What do I do when I am annoyed by all music ever, but need music desperately?

I sing to myself. Usually in a car, or while walking alone someplace. Actually, usually that is what that _means_. I used to sing to myself - and siblings - to calm myself or to try to get to sleep while a kid.

So what I sang to myself?

"Magic" (of course. A couple times) - http://www.guntheranderson.com/v/data/magic.htm

'"Sing" - http://www.vex.net/~paulmac/carpenter/lyrics/sing.html (which I did not know all the lyrics to until, well, right now)

"Edelweiss" - http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/r/rodgers_and_hammerstein/edelweiss.html

"You Are Not Alone" - http://www.tsrocks.com/b/broadways_texts/into_the_woods_-_no_one_is_alone.html

"No More" - http://www.allmusicals.com/lyrics/intothewoods/nomore.htm

Probably other things.

So yes. I sing to myself. It helps, somehow.

-random conversations with a co-worker about interesting zoos in China with lots of tigers and pandas (made all the better by the sheer _glee_ involved in talking about it)
-People wanting to help me to do research, both just to help me out, and because they are themselves curious (even if some of them were unable due to requirements)
-Pretty music, from various sources, including suggestions by people I'm close to and things played by sweeties
-seeing people who are usually too far away, even if as is always true the visit is too brief.
-bursting out laughing multiple times during said visit
-local sweetie returned to the area
-thoroughly not-local sweetie to be here again in about a month
-hugs
-kisses
-best roommate in the world still is both the best and my roommate.
-funny/good/interesting conversations with all sorts of people
-kitty remembers that it's the time of year that I sit in front of the light for breakfast time, and comes running from wherever he is in the house when he hears the light click on
-I'm driving myself to work three days a week, taking a class, working full-time (which is being especially crazy right now). And my wrists _are still handling things_.
-is loved.
-loves.
-silly camera videos of dogs wrestling. One of which was partly under a sheet. Sheet puppy! Really, _really_ happy puppy tails!
-"hers [camera] is bigger than yours!"

Just happy.

And it's certainly not the weather! :) Even if the trees do remain pretty.

Ok, back to working again.

Lyrics what make me happy.

From Vienna Teng's "Eric's Song":

"We dance through the colors
Both followed and led"

and

"As lessons exquisitely crafted
Painstakingly drafted
To carve ourselves instruments
That play the music of life"

Well, among others. I really just adore this song and tend to play it many times in a row, rather loudly. :)

Driving to work was not bad, once I remembered to relax. So driving home should be fine, and I _should_ be able to try driving to and from work one day a week again! *hopeful*

It is, however, perhaps not the wisest choice of music to play "Long Way", by Antje Duvekot (from Little Peppermints) on the way to work, when I'm already filled with wanderlust. :) (but I still appreciate the recommendation, [livejournal.com profile] metahacker!)
