Because [livejournal.com profile] redjo's answers fascinated me enough to ask for questions...

questions and answers below )

edit: forgot this part. :)

Standard instructions: Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me," and I'll ask you five questions of my choice. You post the questions and answers on your journal, include this same explanation and an offer to interview someone else. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

This question pleases me...

On a warm night, a gentle rain begins and the sky is lit bright as day by occasional flashes of cloud-to-cloud lightning. You:

a) Hide under the bed!
b) Ignore it.
c) Run to the window to watch.
d) Run outside to dance and play!

D! D, dammit! (if I can, that is)

Pretty Astronomy Picture of the Day today!

Neat meme, as seen on [livejournal.com profile] rmjwell's journal, wording slightly modified:

Go browse through my list of interests and pick one that either 1) you know nothing about but sounds intriguing, or 2) you know something about but can't fathom why I would be interested in it, and request an explanation. Alternatively (or additionally), you can ask me about a community I'm subscribed to.

Also! I was informed that my email has facial expressions. And I _think_ this meant completely aside from my excessive use of emoticons. I was trying to figure out if this also means my phone conversations do, if anyone else sees my facial expressions when not actually seeing my face, and precisely how many people do or say things _just_ to get a certain reaction out of me. ;)

So... silly poll!

Huh! Neat idea, in [livejournal.com profile] kightp's journal, but not one I seem to be able to wrap my mind around. I can't seem to combine 'who I am' with 'things'. But wanted to pass along the idea to all of you anyway. It seems really really neat!

"So, say you were meeting a new person--blind date, new friend, who knows. And you wanted them to have some idea of what kind of person you are, and who you are. But you can't actually tell them in so many words. Instead, you have to give them a box, with a dozen things in it for them to look at/read/listen to/taste/whatever. "What would you put in the box? And a copy of your journal or a link to your LJ would be the same thing as just telling them directly, yourself, so that's not allowed."

---

See... I really want to try this, and it's frustrating me! Eh, I'll just go for neat things, rather than actually trying to give a sense of myself (and, accidentally, I might even succeed!):

1) a light, silk, jewel-toned, broomstick skirt
2) a soft, velvety shirt of some sort, also jewel-toned.
3) grass, preferably fresh so it smells green and is still soft (maybe some potted grass?)
4) A recording of myself, singing Magic - even if it _is_ my youngest sister who actually first learned it at camp one summer, and then taught it to me.
5) A broad spectrum light bulb (if I could figure out how, I'd put in some sort of automatically-functioning sun-imitating light/heat source).
6) Contact, the movie. I still haven't read the book. This is the first movie I ever owned.
7) Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah, Richard Bach. (note that I don't actually like Amazon much, but it's as good a link as any to give as a description of stuff)
8) One of Zenna Henderson books about The People. Recently introduced to this, but glad I was.
9) Earth Town Square, by Peter Mayer
10) February, Dar Williams
11) When I Was a Boy, Dar Williams

OK, I'm stumped. How does one illustrate playfulness, with a single object?

Well, I got 11... not 12, though.

You know a quiz interests me when it lurks in the corner of my mind for days. This is cos'
fault
. Even if Cos blames it on someone else. :)

1) If you could be instantly fluent in one other language that you currently do not read or speak, which would it be?

German. My parents both speak it, it sounds cool, and it's the largest percentage of anything that I am. Woo-hoo! I'm a mutt!

2) If you could have the starring role in any film already made, what would it be?

Contact. I love that movie. First movie I ever owned.

3) If you could receive one small package this very moment, who would it be from and what would be in it?

Mmm... presents... I don't want to pick! Surprise is half the fun! OK - a *little* bit specific, then. Either something to play with or something to read.

*reminding herself of one of her .sigs* "My toys! My toys! I can't do this job without my toys!"

4) If you could own one work of art from any collection in the world but were not able to sell it, which work of art would you select?

Um... I don't know? I don't tend to know the names of things. Something interactive! Interactive art is *fun*.

5) If you were instantly able to play one musical instrument perfectly that you never have played before, what would it be?

lap harp. They make pretty sounds and look cool, and I've managed to form a crush on every single person I've met who played one. :) But they're not cheap, and I'm afraid I'll buy one and decide I don't like it as much anymore. That, and I don't have any idea how to select a harp!

6) If you could possess one supernatural ability, what would it be?

Um..... to a certain extent, I already seem to have healing. But I want better control over it. Flying would be neat!

7) If you had to choose the most valuable thing you ever learned, what would it be?

Be yourself. No one else can, and it makes life much more entertaining. Although sometimes very difficult.

Which vaguely reminds me of: "In order to live free and happily, you must sacrifice boredom. It is not always an easy sacrifice. -Richard Bach, _Illusions_"

Yes, I like quotes. And buttons. And bumper stickers. :)

8) If you could have only one piece of furniture in your house, what would it be?

If furniture does not include such things as a fridge and a stove, bookshelves. I have entirely too many books to not have bookshelves. At least not if I want to be able to find them again later. :)

9) If you could read the private diary of someone you know personally, whose diary would it be?

Uh... This is a strange question. Questions I have, I ask when I have them. So how would reading someone's diary be useful? Especially if they are likely to be using it as a means to figure out themselves (which can easily mean that they don't necessarily even mean what they wrote)?

Ick. No personal diary reading unless someone asks for some reason.

10) If you could have one person you know as your slave for one month, who would it be?

Um. No. I don't want a slave. I have enough trouble letting friends help me out with stuff.

11) If you could choose the way you will die, how would you want it to happen?

Neither as a surprise nor painfully and drawn out.

12) If you could wake up tomorrow to learn that the major newspaper headlines were about you, what would they say?

Eeep! No fame for me, please.

13) If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?

Pay off college & car loans. Determine if any of my friends are in desperate financial trouble because of the crappy economy. Travel. In that order. Maybe go back to school a bit.

14) If you could take away the vocal cords of any person, who would it be?

Bush Jr...

15) If you had to describe your idea of the perfect mate, how would you do it?

No such thing. Perfection is too varied in my world; I've been known to appreciate completely opposite traits in different people (hell, I've been known to *have* completely opposite traits in myself).

16) If you had to have a personal friend redecorate your house, who would you pick to do it?

Jessie. Not that anyone reading this knows her.

17) If you had to choose the worst home you've ever lived in, which one was it?

The apartment I came home to after I was in Spain. Too small, too crowded... crazy-making!

18) If you could have prevented one thing from happening between you and a friend, what would it have been?

Realized *beforehand* that we did not work together as a Primary relationship. And not tried it.

19) If you had to describe yourself as a child in one word, what would it be?

Confused.
