Ok, fine. I'll attempt this. :)

10 things I've done that you probably haven't:

1) Bent, not broken, an arm bone.
2) Born by C-section 12 weeks early due to major infection of both myself and my mother.
3) Been Baptized, given Last Rites, and Confirmed. And I'm not Catholic anymore. (and tend to have fairly strongly negative boredom associations with ritualistic things. Which is funny, considering how much of a creature of habit I can be!)
4) Was temporarily blind due to concussion, followed by throwing up on a doctor's shoes while he was trying to convince my parents that I was fine.
5) Found out that the words for (water) 'wave' and 'hello' sound the same in Spanish while on a boat in the Mediterranean Sea.
6) Announced to a room full of people that I have toes. :)
7) Fallen out of a tree in extreme slow motion because the tree bent _with_ me, thus breaking most of my fall. Poor tree...
8) Flown back to CTY from a sibling's wedding, ending up effectively vanishing for a few hours as far as both CTY and my parents were concerned.
9) Gone to school and back for three years via taxi because I was far too likely to get too lost to recover from it if I tried to walk, and there was no bus. (This, incidentally, was the three years I went to a Catholic school, 6-8)
10) Didn't apply to any colleges when I graduated from high school at 15, because I didn't feel even remotely ready for college yet (this is part of why I went to Spain for 9 months).

1) The doctors were surprised that my bones were sufficiently flexible at that point to have bent. I think I was 10.

2) Kidney infection. Apparently my mom got them when she was pregnant. I was apparently infected everywhere except my blood, brain, and spinal column. Being so early is also probably why I had a heart murmur as a kid. Apparently I was not interested in the idea of possibly not surviving, and was very strongly attached to life from the very beginning.

3) Baptized and Last Rites were pretty much at the same time. I was also named by my dad, which is why my given name is close to, but not the same as, my mom's.

4) I've actually had two concussions. It's suspected that at least one of the two was possibly due to seizures, but was never confirmed.

5) 'ola' and 'hola'. I was living with a family in Spain for 9 months.

6) I actually tend to announce random things to random groups of people fairly often, especially if I'm tired. This particular incident was at APC10. I do, BTW, still have toes. But they are less interesting when I can't see them moving. I also, apparently, told my entire brownie Girl Scout troop that I had brown shoes. I was apparently very, very excited about this, and wanted to share. (I don't remember this) See, I've always been like this. ;)

7) The branch I was on broke, and I grabbed near the top of the - fairly short and flexible - tree as the nearest handhold.

8) The plane back was canceled or something, so I called my parents. After I got off the phone, someone found me and got me onto a bus that was being used instead. When I called after arriving at the expected airport, there was much cheering in the background because I was no longer lost. Note: I was even more easily lost as a kid than I am now, and much, _much_ less able to cope.

9) See above with getting lost. ;) There's a reason I like maps, and forced myself to learn how to read them.

10) My dad applied to Nursing school for me, and I was in Nursing school for two years part-time when I got back from Spain. I was fine until Clinicals, which I felt entirely unprepared for. Then there was a year in Comp Sci at a continuing ed school, then four years at UNH as Comp Sci and Pre-Med, from which I finally graduated.

I was baptized and circumcised. (I was born at a Catholic hospital where they baptized everything that moved.)

I believe I went to and from school via taxi for about six months. Huh. Forgot all about that. Thanks for reminding me.

In my case, we (my siblings and I) were classified as non-English speaking immigrants and thus entitled to schooling at the nearest school with an English as a Second Language teacher, which was about five km away. (The nearest school was less than 1km, and considered walking distance.)

Huh! Fascinating reason, that. Much better a one than that I was too likely to get lost. ;)

I went to high school and back via taxi for several months, because I had been hit by a car and couldn't walk. I don't know if that counts as a "good" reason :)

Ooh, I believe I did that once as a kid. Large cherry tree.

Huh! Neat. I'm not going to try to come up with another one, though. ;)

Mine was some sort of evergreen, though.

[livejournal.com profile] suzimoses is famous for asking whether she has feet, though probably for different reasons. *)

Hee! Curious as to her reasons, now.

Mine tend to be because I notice them as being especially interesting at that point in time.

When she's very tired, she doesn't believe she has feet unless she can see them.

Huh! Interesting.

I've been known to feel disconnected from myself, but I still think I have appropriate body parts (although sometimes I think I have extras).

Yes, she was once very confused by the appearance of a third foot until it became clear that it belonged to [livejournal.com profile] brooksmoses.

Heh! Interestingly, I think I'd be a bit confused as well, as I tend most often to think I have more hands than I do. :)
