1. For a person whom you loved deeply, would you move to a distant country knowing that there would be little chance of seeing your friends/family again?
No. I will not move for other people. I will only move for myself. What happens if you move for someone else, and then they leave you with no support network, and no way of getting somewhere you have one?
2. If you died tonight without an opportunity to communicate with anyone, what would you most regret not telling someone?
Right now, I have no pending things to tell anyone that would still matter if I were no longer alive. I'm glad this question made me aware of this fact, actually - I was not aware of this until just now.
3. If you could spend one year in perfect happiness but afterwards be unable to remember a moment of it, would you?
Absolutely. It would be frustrating not knowing what had happened, especially if there are people I met during that time, but that year would be worth it. And I can always get to know people again, if they were worth it the first time. And if they think I'm worth the repeat effort.
4. If a new medication was developed to cure arthritis, but it would kill 1 percent of all that took it, would you want it released to the public?
Yes. But with all information about safety concerns made publicly available.
5. You discover that your one-year-old is in fact not your child due to a mix-up at the hospital. Would you exchange the child to correct the mistake?
This assumes that I will have children, but I'll run with that assumption. No, I won't exchange the child. The first year is a very important one for bonding and trust and such, and by that point I will certainly be thinking of the child as my own. It's not kind to either of us to try to change that. I would, however, have to have quite a talk with the hospital about their mistake! And would feel compelled to try to make sure that the child which was actually mine is in a good home.
6. Do you think the world will be better or worse 100 years from now?
Um. I don't know. I think that it would be a combination of both; some things better, some things worse.
7. Would you accept $1 million to leave the country forever?
No. I haven't explored it sufficiently yet, and not everyone I care about would be able to come visit me if I lived elsewhere.
8. What gender do you think has it easier in society?
Neither. There are things that suck in all cases. And things that are good in all cases. (and I assumed that it meant *my* society, since there are a lot of them)
9. You're given the power to kill people by thinking of their death then twice whispering the word "good-bye." These people would die a natural death, and no one would ever suspect you. Would you do it?
Oh, _gods_, I do _not_ want that power. I'd like to think I wouldn't use it, but I _know_ how easy that might be to say, in an appropriately impulsive situation. Especially if it's a crappy time of year. I don't suppose I can convince them to take away the option?
10. If you live to the age of 90 and you're given the choice to either keep the mind or the body of a 30-year-old for the last sixty years of your life, which would you choose?
Mind. Well, assuming it's mine. If it _isn't_ mine, then it doesn't really matter much, because I'm no longer me anyway.
11. Who do you admire the most, and why?
I don't know. I don't think I _do_ 'most'. I admire an awful lot of people...
12. If given the choice to become extremely physically ugly in exchange for living at any physical age you chose, would you do it?
No. It would be too much of a shock to change my physical appearance, and as much as people say physical appearance shouldn't matter, it would (if nothing else) be much harder to make friends if people would refuse to look at or interact with me.
13. If you could wake up tomorrow with one ability or quality gained, what would it be?
No more irrational fears.
14. You have the chance to meet a person with whom you fall madly in love with, a relationship you could only dream of. Unfortunately, you know in six months, the person will die. Would you still want to meet them?
Yes. 6 months can be a very long time, if one makes sure to live as fully as possible during that time.
15. If you had a voodoo doll and could hurt anyone you chose, would you use it?
Um. Presuming that I received it not at a period when I was really, really angry, I would do my best to dispose of it however makes sense. If I was really, really angry (rare, but happens), I don't know. I'd hope I would not...
16. While your significant other is on a vacation in a far away city, he/she meets an exciting stranger and ends up sleeping with them. Considering that they will never meet again, would you want him or her to tell you?
Tell me, yes! Honesty is important. Also, I'd certainly need to know appropriate information about safer sex precautions and conversations and such. Besides, I'd want a chance to squee with them about the joys of that meeting!
17. For an all-expense paid, one-week vacation anywhere in the world, would you be willing to kill a beautiful butterfly by pulling off its wings?
No! That's cruel...
18. Would you murder an innocent person if it meant that world hunger would end?
Um. No. a) I don't think I could or would murder anyone, b) it's not my choice to end someone else's life, no matter what the reason (it can, however, be their choice!).
19. What is your most treasured memory?
I don't think I _have_ one. I don't tend to spend much time in my memories, for one thing; my memories are not the most useful things in the world (being mostly made up of emotions, concepts, and textures); I have a variety of different memories which are delightful, but none that is the 'best'.
20. Would you rather be given $10,000 for your own use or $100,000 to distribute to strangers anonymously?
Um. The amount I can distribute to strangers, partly because it's a larger amount and therefore overall more useful, and partly because I'm not bad off for money right now.
21. If you knew there would be a nuclear war in one week, what would you do?
Do my best to spend time with the people I care about, including the one that I'm not able to be talking to right now. Not sleep. Have lots and lots of conversations and snuggles. Do my best to enjoy what time is left.
22. Would you accept 20 years of immense happiness and fulfillment if it meant dying at the end?
Absolutely. I'm not afraid of dying - we all do it. And the 20 years would be totally more than worth dying earlier than what is normal life expectancy. Besides, how do I know I'd have lived even as long as 20 years more, otherwise?
23. Would you give up half of what you own right now if you could obtain a pill that would make it so that one hour of sleep each night would refresh you completely forever?
Oh, my _gods_, yes! Needing to sleep (rather than doing so because I want to) annoys me almost as much as needing to eat (rather than because I want to do so). And what I own isn't terribly important, anyhow.
24. If the person you're engaged to marry had an accident and became a parapalegic (no use of legs) would you still follow through with your marriage?
*blinks* Well, presuming that I _would_ get married (highly unlikely), yes. If it's someone I care about enough to actually want to marry them, yes.
Of course, if this question had been about some sort of mental impairment, rather than a physical one, I don't know how I would answer. Probably depends on the type of impairment, but I'm sure there are some for which the answer would be that I would not be able to follow through.
25. How would you feel if you knew your significant other had a boyfriend/girlfriend of the same sex in the past?
Good for them! Hell, it might actually make me _more_ comfortable with them, if it indicates that they at least _thought_ about their sexual orientation, rather than taking the default. Also, why does it have to be in the past? I'm poly... :)
26. You are offered $1 million for the following: before you are ten pistols, one of which is loaded. You are to pick one up, point it at your forehead and pull the trigger. If you survive, you will walk away rich. Would you do it?
No. Money is completely not worth my life.
27. Someone very close to you is in pain, paralyzed and will die within the next two months. He/she begs you to give them poison. Would you do it?
Yes. People should have the right to decide when to end their own lives.
28. You are given the power to go any distance into the future for one year, and after a year, return with all the knowledge you have gained, with nothing physical to prove it. Would you do it if there was a 50% risk of death?
No. I will get to that future on my own, or not, anyway. And I want my life to live.
29. While parking late one night, you scrape a Porsche. No one saw you, and the damage is extremely minor and wouldn't be covered by insurance. Would you leave a note?
No.
30. By controlling medical research funds, you can guarantee that within 15 years, a cure will be found for one disease, however during this time, no research will be done for cures of other diseases. Would you target the one disease?
No. That's a very long time to not have other research going on, and it's _much_ too likely that there will have been a fair number of other important things found out during tha time.
31. Would you add one year to your life if it meant taking away one year from another random person's?
No. It's not mine to take.
32. You and a person you love deeply are in separate rooms with a button next to each of you. Both of you will be killed if neither of you presses their button within an hour, but whoever DOES press the button will save the other's life. What would you do?
Press the button.
33. If someone you loved needed a kidney transplant, and you were the only option, with a 50% expectancy to live through the operation, would you do it?
Yes.
34. When did you last yell at someone and why?
Um. I don't know. It's been a while. I don't yell often at _all_.
35. Would you be willing to have horrible nightmares every night for a year in exchange for extreme wealth?
Gods, no. No amount of money is worth my sanity.
36. If you could have free, unlimited service for five years from a cook, chauffeur, housekeeper, masseuse, or secretary, which would you choose?
Cook. But only if I could get the cook to teach me stuff.
If I can't, masseuse. Massage therapy is a good thing, and I get it regularly now anyway.
37. Would you go to a slaughterhouse and kill a cow? Do you eat meat?
I suspect that I would not be able to kill a cow, but I would be willing to try. I do eat meat, although pretty small amounts. And _really_ small amounts, for beef.
38. Would you like to spend a month of solitude in a distant natural setting with free food and shelter, but without being able to see another person at all?
Only a month? Yes.
I just determined that it doesn't even matter what time of year it is, because being alone for a month with free food and shelter implies I wouldn't need to make any decisions or _do_ anything for that month. So no matter what time of year, I'd probably enjoy it. I _like_ the outdoors.
39. On a hot summer day, you see a dog in a car suffering badly from the heat. What would you do?
Try to find the owner. If that is not possible, call the police to do something for the poor animal.
40. If you knew that you would die in a year, would you change anything about how you're living?
Yes. I would stop paying back my school loans (I'm paid up through two years from now, right now, because I want them _gone_). I would save up money for the next three-six months, quit my job, and travel for the remaining time. With strong location decisions based on people who I want to spend more time with and/or meet, and with those first three-six months spent with as much time as possible with people I care about locally.
41. For $20,000 would you go for three months without washing, brushing your teeth, or using deodorant?
No! If nothing else, that's horrible for one's health!
42. Would you rather die peacefully with friends at 50, or painfully and alone at 80, with the 30 years in between being rather happy ones?
I want to be with my friends. Dying alone, at least to me, implies that I will no longer have my friends around during part of that. It's not about the length of life as the quality of it...
43. Would you have one of your fingers amputated if it guaranteed immunity from all diseases?
If I can pick which one, yes. Neither of my pinky fingers are terribly important to me. Although I'd probably choose the left one. If no choosing, then no.
44. Would you rather leave the country forever or never leave the state in which you live now?
*blink* Ahh! I'd rather leave the country. I would not want to be trapped.
45. You, your best friend, and your dad go hiking in the jungle. Your friend and father are bitten by extremely poisonous snakes. They will die if they don't get anti-venom shots. you only have one dose. who would you give it to?
Ow. I hate this question.
I think I would choose my dad.
46. If you could choose the sex and looks of your child, would you?
No.
47. On a street, you're approached by a well-dressed person who apologetically asks you for a dollar to catch the bus, as he has lost his wallet. What would you do? What would you do in that situation if approached by a haggard looking man who claimed to be hungry and unable to get a job?
I would give the dollar. A dollar is not a large amount to me. I've actually done this before, although the person in question looked more like a student.
I'm not sure what the haggard looking man is asking me for? I would most likely try to get him food from wherever is near and offers such things. Beyond that, I don't know what I _can_ do. I wouldn't feel safe offering him much beyond food, unless I know where a shelter is, simply because I'm really not a very large person, and I'm female.
48. If by sacrificing your life, you would contribute so much to the world that you would be recognized in every nation, would you do it? Would you do it knowing that someone you detested would get the credit for your accomplishment?
I don't care if I get recognized for whatever it is, but if the contribution is something that I believe it, I would do it.
And I also don't care if someone I detest got the credit (I'm also not sure I _do_ detest anyone).
49. You know you'll die of a terminal disease within three months. Would you be frozen within a week if it gave you a modest chance of being revived in a thousand years?
No. I don't want to be coming back to a world I don't know, with no one I care about around, and no support network.
50. You're driving late at night, when you hit a dog that darted in front of your car. Would you stop and see how badly it is injured? What would you do if you killed it and it had a tag?
Yes. If it had a tag, I'd attempt to contact the owners. If not, I would probably contact the local police. It's horrible to lose an animal and never know what happened...
51. A millionare offers to donate a huge sum of money to charity if you walk four blocks naked on a busy downtown street. Would you?
Sure. As long as I won't be too cold. If it's winter, I probably wouldn't.
52. Would you have your aging process cut by a factor of thirty giving you a life expectancy of 2,000 years?
If I were the only one? No. I don't want to outlive everyone I care about.
53. If you were having difficulty on a very important test and could safely cheat off of another person's paper, would you?
No.
54. Would you take five years from your life if it meant becoming extremely attractive?
I'm perfectly happy with my current appearance, and I _like_ my life. So, no.
55. If you could go back to anytime in the past, but not return, would you? What era would you return to?
Oh, my, the curiosity. My curiosity says I would, but I think I would not. I would be unprepared for any other era - indeed, I'm not sure I'm prepared for this one. And I would not want to have to never see the people I care about ever again.
56. If your friends/relatives were willing to tell you bluntly and honestly what they thought of you, would you want them to?
Yes. In fact, I encourage such behavior already.
57. Would you accept $10,000 in exchange for shaving your head and going without a wig or a hat and not explaining your reason?
Um. I don't know. Probably not. I like hair too much.
58. If you were married and met another person who you know will provide a satisfying and intoxicating love life that would top the relationship you are in, would you leave your spouse?
Um. Are we assuming I'm not poly? That's... sufficiently foreign a concept to me that I don't know what I would do. But I probably would leave.
If we are going by who I am, now, I wouldn't have to leave. Not only do I not plan to get married, if at some point I actually _do_, it would most certainly have to be a poly marriage.
59. If you were given the option to become paralyzed below the neck for a year to save the blue whale from extinction, would you?
Um. I think that would depend on how I would get appropriate care for that year. If I were in some sort of assisted care place without people I care about, no. Otherwise, maybe. I am not sure.
60. If you saw your mother holding hands with and kissing another man, and she begged you not to tell your father, would you?
*blinks* Um. The degree to which this is an unlikely scenario is amusing. But! I think the answer would be that I would not. But I would feel the need to suggest strongly that she do so herself, until she does. Also - I am pretty damn sure she'd tell him herself, should that happen.
61. If 100 people your age were chosen at random, how many do you think have a more satisfying life then you?
I like my life. I don't think many more my age would find theirs as good as mine, even if I do spend a fair amount of time wanting additional things.
62. Would it disturb you much if you knew that after your death your body would be thrown into the woods and left to rot? Why/why not?
Um. Yes, but only because I want my organs to go to people who need them. If that were taken care of, I'd actually rather my body _not_ be somewhere people can find it. I won't be there anymore anyway...
63. Which would you prefer: a wild, turbulant life filled with joy, sorrow, passion and adventure--intoxicating successes and stunning setbacks; or a happy, secure, predictable life surrounded by friends and family without such wide swings of fortune/mood?
The former. I'd be bored in the latter.
64. If you knew your child would be born severely retarded and would die at age five, would you have an abortion?
Assuming I'm actually _having_ a child (unlikely, in itself), no. I would not. If I am actually wanting a child, I want it as whomever it will be. I do, however, have an amount of lingering uncertainty as to if the child will want that life or not, and if I have the right to make the decision for it or not...
65. Would you like to know the precise date of your death?
Absolutely not.
66. Would you accept an annual "allowance" of $50,000 a year (adjusted for inflation each year) if it meant never working for money again?
Yes. I don't want to have to work to live. And I'm ok with the idea of finally finding something I want to do, but not charge people for it. Even if it will probably make people think it's worth less. Perhaps I could barter, rather than charge? Hmm...
67. What, if anything, is too serious to kid about?
This does depend on the person, of course - for some people, joking about things is simply a way to laugh instead of crying and/or giving up (laughing so you don't cry...). But, for me, I don't deal well with jokes about rape, people's insecurities, or abuse of any sort.
68. If, by having a 2X2 inch tattoo, you would save five lives and prevent a terrorist attack, would you get it?
Yes.
69. Would you give up TV for five years if it meant that someone would take care of 1,000 starving children in Indonesia?
Absolutely. It's not like I watch TV anyway. :)
70. On a plane, you're talking to an average looking stranger on a plane. He randomly offers you $10,000 for one night of sex. Knowing that it is safe and that being paid is a sure thing, would you do it?
No. It won't be good for my mental state. Connection is necessary for me.
71. If you had the choice between one intimate soul mate and no close friends or many friends and acquaintances, but no soulmate, which would you choose?
Difficult question, this! But... the latter. Only having one person as my support network isn't a good thing.
72. For $2,000 would you get up in a crowded restaurant and loudly berate a waitress, knowing she will be very grateful if you obtain the money and split it with her later?
No. That's not something I can do, I don't think. I'm a bit confrontation shy...
73. If there was a public execution on TV, would you watch it?
No.
74. If you could increase your IQ by 40 points by having an ugly scar stretching from your mouth or your eye, would you do it?
... I'm not feeling any need to be smarter than I am. I may periodically be amazed by other people's brains, but I'm not feeling deficient. So, no.
75. Would you be content in a marriage completely devoid of sex, but happy in every other way?
I'm suspecting that this question is asking in terms of monogamy - in which case, no. But if this is asking in terms of polyamory, yes. Assuming I wanted to get married in the first place, of course.
76. If you are leading 100 people, and one path would guarantee the survival of 90 people, while the other has a 50% rate of survival for all and if it were failed, all would die, which would you choose?
Highly selfishly, the latter. I don't want to have to stick around to explain why 10 people died under my care when there was another option. Either we all die, or none of us do.
77. For $1 million, would you never speak to or see your best friend again?
No. Absolutely not. Nothing is more valuble to me than close friends.
78. If you were eating at a restaurant, and you weren't charged for something, would you tell the waitress?
Yes. Assuming I noticed, of course.
79. Would you commit perjury for a friend? (i.e. the friend is accused of hitting a pedestrian out of carelessness, which is true, would you testify that he was being careful?)
No.
80. For $50,000, would you take a perfectly healthy pet to the vet to be put to sleep?
No! That's horrible!
81. If you were guaranteed honest responses from three questions, what would they be?
Will I find any of the things I ache for, including, but not limited to, someone who is home and for whom I am home, at least one fullfilling career? (and no, I have no idea what the hell I'd do if the answer were 'no'. Accept it and continue on, I guess... ) (Yes, I do realize that the post I linked to isn't public. Thus, the summary after it.)
What part of my current life needs changing, if any?
What methods would work the best for me to stop blocking myself from various paranormal things I could do as a child?
