Yay! I think I have enough people (I definitely have enough, but I think I have actually contacted and expect to get surveys back from enough, so do not need to ask anyone else who has offered).

Thanks to you all!

In other news, I think I need to start using my light-based alarm in mornings again; getting up in the morning is proving difficult. Damn light levels...

I need 12, not 9. If anyone who did not volunteer in my poll about helping me do a study about jury decisions in courtrooms, who is over 18, and not a victim of a violent crime, and wants to help me out, that would be wonderful.

I _really_ don't want to re-use people who already helped in the first one, since I debriefed them, and this version is only slightly different.

I need 4 more; possibly 6 depending on how many people have replied to my ping about helping from my first poll. This time, I don't need to know about gender in this poll (but do in the actual survey).

Why does SPSS hate me?

This makes my homework difficult to do.

No really, there are _two_ variables (one dependent, one independent). I can see them! Stop pretending there's only one when I try to run your damn ANOVA thing.

(this after it deciding that one of my groups was multiple, last night)

Stupid thing.

(on the plus side, another set of volunteers needed, and I _may_ have enough from the extra people who volunteered last time and didn't get to take part in the last one)

Hey, all!

This semester, my class is a research class, including data collection and such. As such, I need 8 volunteers for a brief survey relating to jury decisions in a courtroom. We need people over 18 (I don't think anyone reading me is not over 18), and people who have not been victims of violent crime. Additionally, we're trying for gender balance.

I may or may not (I cannot recall) need more volunteers later in the semester, so even if I don't pick you (since this is a convenience sample anyway, I'm going to pick the first 4 men and first 4 women to reply), I may still need your help later. (I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with anyone whose gender is neuter, FWIW)

I will be sending the actual survey through email, so please give a valid email address (I will check that you really did mean to volunteer, and that it works, before sending the survey).

[Poll #1267372]

Help me do my homework! ;) Hopefully I've not done a horrible job of forgetting important stuff, and have also managed to not give too much information thus invalidating my data.

I understand that statistical packages help reduce the tedium of doing statistical analysis by hand. But why does SPSS seem to have decided that one needs to trade that tedium in for tedium involving entering in your data? The computer _should be able to handle these things correctly_ without irritating extra steps.

I really, really, really wish that statistics professors and textbooks would _pick a damn symbol and stick with it_!

This is as bad as the math proof class I took as a CS undergrad. Stop skipping stops, stop explaining tho parts that are _not_ confusing, and stop putting in random irrelevancies to try to amuse us. Not amused when your attempts at wit only serve to derail my train of thought! Seriously!

Graa. At least I had a good intentional (and based on the number of stupid mistakes in homework & exam, _needed_) break from my stats class for the weekend! Good weekend, it was. Muchly so!

*back to decyphering her class textbook & professor's notes*

Any of y'all face blind? Do other members of your family also have trouble with face recognition?

I ask because one of the better known face blindness research teams is, as always, looking for more people with face blindness, _especially_ if multiple members of a family all have it.

So, go fill out their contact form if you're face blind/prospagnosic, especially if others of your family are, too. (it is very likely that the more severe the congenital face blindness, the less likely one is to realize that it's missing. Finding out I had it caused me to ask my mom if she did. She did, but did not realize it)

This whole "having a libido" thing in mid-winter is weirding me out. Even if I do approve of overall improved mood due to sleeping and anti-depressant pills. And even if I am still ridiculously and frequently tired and sleeping poorly. Additionally, it causes funny posts. I blame cuddling. And scent. I really am very cuddle and scent-oriented.

Less than a month! Good thing. My right wrist is not entirely sure if it is willing to be happy with me again. Probably partly because mid-winter means poor sleep. And insufficient sleep.

Eventually I will actually get around to posting about the magazine/notebook/computer-ish object I would like to have existing. But first I need to have more hand-happy in order to organize my thoughts better and flesh them out in writing as thoroughly as they are in my head. Also, I blame my research basics class for the concept appearing in my head while I was dreaming last semester, and then spending the rest of the night and following morning fleshing it out. [livejournal.com profile] jasra experiences some really interesting pieces of how I think, just by living with me. ;)
