neat thing

I get to have a Mirena inserted in 8 days. Finally, I will be done with the damn birth control pill! (also, having this done on Friday the 13th pleases me, somehow)

postcards! (incidentally, this post is where I got the first link from)

Want to move _now_. But must wait. Must find an apartment and must wait for my current roommate to move out.

Packing has begun, though! Packing amuses me a rather disturbing amount. I pack what is unlikely to be needed before move (decorations, then possibly books I've read).

For someone who never actually cooks, I have an awful lot of cookbooks. And I really need to get a book into which I can stick loose recipes, as I have a bunch of those, and organizing would help encourage me to use them. One can tell that I still intend to teach myself, I guess. :)

For someone who rarely games, I have an awful lot of WhiteWolf gaming books. I should attempt to get rid of them, as I doubt I'll ever want to run a game, and won't want to game regularly enough to play _anyway_.

Must do lots of cleaning so that there is less cleaning to be done when I actually move out. Tonight: washing the kitchen floor. And perhaps continuing with the cleaning of the fridge, which I started this morning (yes, I was awake early enough that I cleaned a little before leaving).

My brain apparently refuses to believe that [livejournal.com profile] australian_joe is to be in the US soon when I'll not be seeing him until the end of the month. Strange brain. It'd be nice for it to believe it, since it'll remove time zone considerations for three weeks, and all!

Sleep study scheduled for early June. Perhaps I shall know what's up with my sleep, and _maybe_ something can be done about it without stupid side effects! Also need to visit the sleep doc three months after I started taking insane amounts of iron pills, to see if that helps.

Kitty blood tests next week, to see that his pills aren't being evil to him. I should remember to ask when his x-ray was done, so I can determine when three months from that time is, to do another one.

Psinging tomorrow! [livejournal.com profile] australian_joe visiting me for ~1 week late May/early June! NYC visit in June! Beginning of Summer party in June! Baitcon at end of July (to which I intend to go, presuming I'm not mid-move)! (here, have an exclamation point. I appear to have extra. ;)

Beep!

Mirena® is appropriate for women who:

  • Have at least one child
  • [...]
  • Are in a mutually monogamous relationship

Wow! All sorts of things I didn’t know about you! You’ll have to introduce me to your child sometime.

(Yes, I realize that was FDA-mandated gibberish. I’m still gonna play with it.)

Believe me, all of that is _WHY_ this is cheer-worthy news.

Ah. Meaning you had to fight to get it prescribed? Good for you for winning. (I mean, not that I'm surprised. In a contest between you and any five Forces of Nature, I'd lay money on you.)

Meaning I had to do a lot of searching to find someone who would even consider it, and then convince them.

And, incidentally, I note that I'm actually not very good at spoken verbal confrontation. So _I_ wouldn't lay money on me! :)

CA not being difficult doesn't surprise me, really. PA does, a bit.

First doctor I tried was basically like 'you've never had a kid and your non-monogamous, I _don't_ think so'. But then, I didn't really know _why_ those restrictions were there, so didn't know what to tell people to inform them that I wasn't as huge a risk as they thought.

This last time, I knew what they were worried about.

And... dangerous? Never heard _that_ before. Huh. :)

What are the reasons for the restrictions?

*wishes she were local so she could take some of those gaming materials off your hands*

Restrictions:

having had children: because not having had children increases the risk of it being expelled, which apparently people don't always notice. I use a Diva cup, though, and apparently if it happens it happens during menstruation. So I'd notice, when emptying/cleaning the cup out.

Not being monogamous: because IUDs increase the risk of a couple of STDs getting into the uterus and causing sterilization. However, I use some sort of barrier whenever doing things involving potential genital fluid contact with other people.

*snickers* And then my mind shouts "Watch out, I have a mirena and I know how to use it!"

Not such a dire threat, that.

And that makes me think of a cursed Nethack IUD:

You are wielding H - cursed Mirena.

You don't think I could issue an atheist blessing by stating I specifically wasn't invoking the attention of any non-existent beings? 8->

Yay Mirena! I don't fit its guidelines either but I'm much happier since I had it installed. I have ginormous pain that can be controlled by hormones. Big yay for Mirena!

If you're shaped oddly, don't worry if it takes a little extra time to settle. Mine took ages but it DID finally decide on a position I couldn't feel. Definitely worth it for me!

Noted. I have been told that I am, before, but I'm not sure what parts of me, exactly, they were talking about.

In my case, um, tmi warning here.

My uterus is "retroverted" - bent - significantly enough that one doctor was positive the Mirena could not even be installed. He all but called me (and the other doctor who wanted to try it) total fools. Apparently I'm nearly a U-shape. And indeed the doc who did the insertion had to try twice, something that's only happened to her a handful of times in the decades of her medical practice. But it's in there.

Took about six weeks for the cramps to fade. Decidedly longer than normal!! As I said though, my bend is really severe. Now my chronic abdominal pain (pinched nerves, often triggered by periods, controllable by hormones because it's inflammation-related) is all but GONE. I am a very happy Mirena "wielder"! :-)

Huh! I don't think I have that particular problem, myself... (and incidentally, I'm _very_ difficult to TMI)

But yay that so much stuff was resolved by it!

From: [identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com
Excellent! Then you should have no trouble, it seems.

Yeah, I'm so used to TMI-ing people inadvertently that I try to throw in warnings when I think of it. :-)

That sounds interesting - I wonder if it's available in Canada because it would be wonderful to get off the pill. I've been flirting with the idea of just going off of it, but that would be bad (TM).

Depo was wonderful..until I got seriously depressed.

Might be worth looking into.
