I'm really sorry to hear that. I'd always wondered how the two of you managed it, having myself done a long-distance relationship of a few hundred miles and found that hard. So I was impressed you managed it as long as you did ... but across the entire planet really is a challenge. I'm sorry.

Well, part of how is that that was how it started.

I do not know if never having had hope that I could move there to live with him would have made it easier, or harder. Or that hope it just helped mask the difficulty I was having, and let us stay together longer than we might otherwise have.
