Based on the... interesting reaction I just had to having to decide to not go to SF on the 4th of July weekend, I'm thinking that I need to find somewhere new, interesting, and local to visit. And soon. Because I think it's more that I need to _go_ somewhere than that I necessarily need time off.

Current thought is that I should finally get around to visiting the Cape, as I've never been. I'm not sure, however, when it tends to not be insanely crowded, nor where is best to be visiting, and all of that lovely stuff.

I'm also very much up to other suggestions. I basically have a very strong pull toward going somewhere different which is reasonably close and inexpensive.

Thoughts? Ideas? People who want to keep me company (in small numbers!)?

Hell, I might even be well served by attempting to get over my fear of NYC and starting to try visiting there. Not sure, though, as it's likely to be very high energy requiring for me, at least initially.

edit: In case it wasn't clear, while this was sparked by former plans for 4th of july, this is actually more general than that. And, oddly, I think I prefer peopled places over natural ones, since most natural places in the New England area are very similar to each other, and don't ping my 'new and different' interest. Oceanic beaches are a possible exception, since I haven't tended to do much with that in New England, due to cold weather.

Grew up in NH, white mountains area. Not my idea of 'new'.

Maine would be new, though... mostly. Is a thought. :)

Oh, right. Duh. But, I maintain that Acadia is really nice! :)

Acadia: probably. I think I decided that - much as I _like_ natural settings in New England - they aren't going to ping my new and different wants. At least not right now. I'm far too familiar with New England.

She could be a were-moose, and under the light of the full moon, transform, bellow, and wander out the back door in search of pondweed...

They're really just big furry brown boulders on spindly legs. The whole head thing is just a formality.

Heh, I saw a moose live for the first time in my backyard a couple of months ago.

Added qualifier - first live moose seen in the wild. I'd seen them in zoos long ago.
