It is extremly amusing to be having an IRC conversation with a co-worker where I'm typing and he's replying verbally (yes, we sit fairly near each other).

It's funnier yet when his neighbor is actually in the office, and wants to know who he's talking to.

Yes, we do this a lot, but she's usually not around. :)

It's even funnier when you're talking to someone in AIM (/some other chat form) and on the phone at the same time.

Or when you're talking to someone two feet away via AIM (/some other chat form).

I've also been talking to my roommate and australian_joe in some sort of multi person chat thingy on IM, and kept forgetting that I needed to reply to my roommate on IM, and not verbally. :)

Yep; I thought about fixing it, and then decided the addendum probably didn't matter that much.

Besides, you seem to have a habit of reading all the replies if there are any replies to you. ;)

What's fun is when you're on IRC and you're in the same house and then someone types they're getting up for a soda and you reply, "Get me one too." The other folks in the room all seem to like to start joking and telling him to get them one also...

Oh, the quirks of office life. How I do sometimes miss it.
I used to throw candy over the cube wall at my neighbor. Occasionally I'd miss and it would land on a passerby, who of course had no idea what hit him.
