This question pleases me...

On a warm night, a gentle rain begins and the sky is lit bright as day by occasional flashes of cloud-to-cloud lightning. You:

a) Hide under the bed!
b) Ignore it.
c) Run to the window to watch.
d) Run outside to dance and play!

D! D, dammit! (if I can, that is)

I forget whether I marked that "somewhat important" or "very important", but it poked it's head above the vast undifferentiated sea of "just barely a smidgeon important", which is what I usually choose. :-) That question made me smile, too.

e) Think quickly - where can I go that's high up and has a good view? Grab a friend, go out driving, find such a place, play there.

one time i was caught at home alone
during a very massive thunderstorm storm
it knocked out all of the power to a large area in PA
the lighting was striking with a mile or two of my house
so i went out on the porch and watched the show
it was a little scary with it being so close
but the power of nature is just too wonderful
to not be in complete awe and reverence

A,B,C, and D. This last Saturday, warm gentle rain meant "finish the last half mile ascent to the covered, heated observatory at the top of Mt. Washington before the lightning and thunder show up". Followed by a wait for the thunderstorm to be replaced with a mere rainstorm, followed by a hurried yet careful step down the mountain in fogged-in rain in totally soaked sneakers, socks, and shorts before it got too dark to see. Eeep!

c) with the addendum that i must turn out the lights, sip something warm, wrap in a blanket and watch the storm, swaying in mesmerized delight.

I was going to mention before, in response to your earlier post, Holt Hill in Andover. From the solstice stones at the top, you can get a panoramic view East, South, and West - it's the highest point in Essex county, and it's on public land, and...oh, damn I guess it's "closed" at night then. But you could "legitimately" be there during a summer evening thundershower before dusk. If you don't mind a little hike to get there, that is.
Have you not been there? It's so close...

E. get instantly turned on by the power of Mother Nature and make mad passionate love to my partner while the thunder rolls around us...

And of course, I would be a "D" with this question.
I blame it on youthful lightning deprivation.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I'm a D person, generally speaking. However, when I've had the opportunities in the past, I've been an E person too. One of the "Best Times Ever" was during a powerful lightning storm whilst I and my partner of the time was in a tent camping in VT. Mmmmm... so good; I wish I was doing it right now.

Oh, that, too - if appropriate partner is nearby. :)

Hell, I might _combine_ D and E, if appropriate partner is nearby. ;)

*blinks* No idea where that is. Where? Want to go!

That, too - but I tend to not be very good at thinking quickly about such things, since driving is not my natural state. ;)

*laugh* You're _squeeking_!

Of the initial choices, D. Of the later choices, both versions of E work, but Cos' tends to require more thought that I tend to have with that much energy in me, and the other one requires _having_ a partner nearby. :)

OK, it's located in Ward Reservation, which is a Trustees of Mass. property (they have lots of cool properties in the state, btw).
You will need a map or good directions to find it, as there are no signs on the approach roads.

I've been there several times; it's nice, and rarely crowded.
There's a caretaker's house on the property, but it's not a no trespassing zone or anything.

Go here:
http://www.thetrustees.org/pages/371_ward_reservation.cfm

It would seem to be less than a mile from your house; you could probably bike to it easily.
There is an access road to the top of the hill, which is gated, but it might be possible to bike to the top.
If not, there is parking at the bottom of the hill, and several routes to the top (see the trail map online).

If you're interested in going with someone else, I'm happy to go back there sometime.

Nice! I do need to remember to copy this _down_ at some point.

Company almost certainly appreciated, but I tend to be _very_ spur of moment for going to places like that, so not sure how feasible.
