snow...

Driving through falling snow is hypnotic, as I was reminded last night on the way home. I also determined that I can get the same effect while out of the car by looking straight up into the falling snow. This does, however, result in a cold and wet face as the snowflakes melt. It's still very pretty, though.

This morning on the way to work, I saw lots of lightly dusted trees, which made for a very pretty drive. Kinda wished I had my camara, except I was driving and couldn't have taken any pictures anyway. Well, except for when the traffic wasn't moving for no apparent reason. This happened often. I still don't know why.

Is driving while hypnotised a good idea?

Nope. Not at all. Which is why driving last night was interesting - was not actually hypnotized, but was having to struggle against my desire to pay more attention to my headlights reflecting off the falling snow than to everything else around me.

This is why the first thing I did when I got out of the car was to find a way to see the snow in the same way and in a *not* dangerous manner. :) Having to fight myself for long periods of time is easier if I know I'll be able to stop fighting myself over whatever it is, if only briefly.

Also, hi! Welcome! I have no idea if I'll add you or not; I'm feeling kinda overwhelmed by my friends list right now. May have to prune; not yet sure. Also probably ought to actually *use* my reading filters more often.

That makes good sense. I'm not so good with the self control, especially when it comes to snow, so it's good that I don't drive. For me, snow is still a sort of fairytale thing that I can scarcely believe is really happening around me. I haven't been here long enough, I suppose.

There's actually a specific term - Snow Hypnosis or Driving Hypnosis. It happens, usually at night and the driver trances out. It's generally considered bad.

Glad you made it safely...

If I did not have a car (and disliked the cold a bit less), I'd be with you on the sheer neatness of snow. And I've lived in the North East of the USA my entire life!

*chuckle* Yes. I sorta figured. Last night was worse, since the snow was seriously screwing with visibility. But, it was fine. :)

Glad you made it safely...

Me, too! Although, generally if I'm aware of things as being dangerous for distraction reasons, I can use my excessively developed control to stay safe. Awareness is usually enough. Also, I'm good at telling if I'm too tired to drive.

Maybe NYCers are just more blase about stuff. Every winter when it first snows, I see everyone else trudging to work, head down, while I am gazing around with this dopey 2-year-old look on my face. Glad to know someone else feels the same way.

Snow photos! (http://www.covehurst.net/gallery/snowstorm)

s/NYCers/most people

I don't necessarily notice the first snow, but snow can certainly be fun. And pretty.

Also, yay for snow photos!
