Hmm. My watch appears to no longer have a back. This means the electronics are free and poking at me. Rude!

I may need to get a new watch (considering this one is from... 1996? that really isn't a bad run. But it's still working!).

Mrr. It was also a gift, so I'm reluctant to get a new one for that reason, as well.

Where is its back? *perplexed*

You can't just wire it into your body?

Well.  *huffs*

The back is intended to come off for servicing (e.g. battery replacement), so it might have managed to work its way out. Call up/go to a watch repair place and see if you can get another back for it?

Hmm. While I knew it was intended to come off, for some strange reason it did not occur to me that I could get another one. Hmm...

Thank you for pointing that out to me!

That's what I was going to say too. :)

We have comfy chairs in the community-style treatment room at the place I've been assisting all summer. Last week someone got up without realizing their watch was in their lap and the back popped off when it hit the ground, so we suggested going to a watch repair place. That's what made me think of that :).

And lo, it is sense-making!

Unfortunately, it's looking somewhat complicated to get this watch's back replaced. Not impossible, I don't think. But complicated.

you could always slap some duct tape on it and call it fixed.

I.. could!

But then changing the battery might involve sadness with the components!

true, it would only buy you a little time and it wouldn't look all that great. maybe you could double up the tape to keep it from sticking too the components inside.

or you could try to find a new back... either way, but that doesn't appeal to my geek sensibilities :-)

Funny thing is, I nearly completely agreed with you, but then I remembered that there was actually a reason for it to be a _removable_ back. :)

This could be solved by making the duct tape non-sticky where the components are (i.e. cut a small circle of paper the size of the hole but not touching the metal, put it onto the duct tape, and put the duct tape onto the watch.
