*stares* Oh, right. I forgot the stupid thing that lets me pay for my classes doesn't let you use the last _24_ passwords.

Because there's no possible way anyone is not writing down their passwords if they cannot use the last 24...

I just *love* those. I usually resort to insults/song lyrics/quotes/whatnot just to get them long enough and un-repeatable enough. I'm usually thinking the insults too when I run across those systems so it's easy to remember ;)

When I encounter a system that locks out the last N passwords, I just change it to N variants on the spot, then back to my original password. ;)

Ooh, that's delightful. Except then I'd have to interact with that system all the more... wonder how hard it is to script that system. *ponder*

My (thankfully past) school's system would check this behavior, complaining you were changing your password too often. Too often! Also, it kept *all* of your passwords for X amount of time (I think X was a few days) and you couldn't reuse any of the ones in that time. I ended up encoding a timestamp into the password, and writing down the algorithm somewhere.

Passwords suck.

Wow. That's... charming.

Amusingly, when I called the helpdesk to figure out why it was letting me login but not do anything (because I must have _weird_ error modes!), he was suggesting such things as the date in my password. My problem is that I _REALLY_ don't like writing down my password. And I will not remember dates.

I did eventually explain that I understand how passwords work, and that giving me suggestions was not actually helping anything. :) (dunno, my mini-rant about it being horrifically insecure might have given the impression that I'm not clueless, but whatever; he probably got into a 'password changing needed' mode and got stuck)
