One of the things that has alleviated my tendonitis has been gentle weight lifting. I started out using a brace and lifting 3 lb weights. Even 1 lb cans would be fine too.
I've had tendonitis in my thumbs (2 years in braces in college and the threat of surgery over my head the entire time) and then the elbows in graduate school.
THe resting was good to get out of acute flare, but the weight training really healed me. I haven't been doing it for 2 months now, and my tendonitis is coming back.
The muscles begin to atrophy after awhile, which doesn't help.
Just another perspective, and not a perscription :)
