Firstly, some links.
kitty cuteness - I don't recall who from.
more kitty cuteness, from the same person as the previous.
Now, some random stuff!
Not being able to rely on being allowed (!) to take my leftovers home with me is seriously annoying. I must remember to carry containers with me (as they apparently won't prevent me if I do it myself)!
I seem to have fully adjusted to looking the opposite way for which direction to expect cars to come from, and to walking on the opposite side of sidewalks, but I still look in the wrong seat to see if anyone is in the driver's seat of cars. Go figure!
I have not driven in _weeks_. This makes me so happy. So very, very happy.
Mostly haven't picked up the accent, much to my surprise. I suspect part of it is my refusal to pick up the New England accent for so many years (due to some level of similarity between the two accents). Some words seem to have it when I think them to myself ('probably' being one, for some reason), which likely mean I say them that way. My own accent sounds odd to me, although more so when thinking than when speaking. Talking briefly to
jasra on Skype did not sound odd, but hearing random American tourists speak a few days ago had my initial reaction to be to wonder why they sounded wrong, interrupted by a realization of why that was. Heh. Probably voice/accent combinations that I am accustomed to (such as my roommate's) won't sound strange, no matter what. Except... then, why do I sound strange to myself, in my head?!
I have been introduced to much adorable anime, largely courtesy of
alecto23 (but others were involved in obtaining things which she does not own). Yay, adorable anime! (if I start using the Japanese word for cute, I will _totally_ blame her. But, then, I suppose it's only fair, since I appear to have infected her with the (over)use of the word 'lo').
I miss my kitty, and being at _home_, rather than a temporary location (which really doesn't bode well for my plans for traveling for a year!). Possibly homesick to some extent. Possibly relating to being sick (again!). It's _odd_ enjoying being here so much at the same time as missing being in my home, and missing my cat and roommate. I suspect part of this is simply that I don't really know very many people here. True, I've gained a sense of two of the locals (and like, but cannot read - possibly due to insufficient time spent with them, possibly due to simply having trouble reading them - a few more), but I've not known them long, which makes it difficult to convince myself to randomly ping. For lo, I am shy in many ways.
Still need to go to the Melbourne Zoo, possum park at twilight, and see stars farther out from the city. Also want to try to go to the Healesville Sanctuary, see the Werribee Open Range Zoo, and the koala sanctuary at Philip Island (I care less about the penguins, possibly due to excessive numbers of tourists). Have done the canopy walk (which was great fun. Fern trees!), although I've not yet determined if any of the pictures are worth posting, and y'all saw me feeding birds. And there was an aquarium visit (I am oddly fond of leafy sea dragons).
