The professor and Wade were gone by the end of 3rd. The other chick (Maggie) was introduced right around then. Then, the show was cancelled by Fox, and picked up by SciFi. Colin Mallory appeared shortly into 4th season. Evidently, but I personally mercifully missed it, both O'Connel brothers left 5th season.
