[firefly, links] Serenity, not spoilers

It was good. It was too much going on in too little time. It was abrupt. It was not the greatness that I'd come to expect from Firefly. This is sad. I hope there is a director's cut, and it helps. I also hope I find someone to borrow the comic books from, and they help.
Serenity in 2000 Words or Less. This link, though is highly spoilery! But funny.

Date: 2005-10-12 04:44 pm (UTC)The director's cut is the one you saw in the theater. There were scenes that were cut, many of which were filmed, and which may end up on the DVD, but, having read the screenplay, Joss was right to cut them. I mean, I'd like to see a lot more of the Inara/Mal stuff which was cut, but it wasn't necessary for the movie. And most of the rest of the stuff that was cut was exposition that was unnecessary because it was entirely covered by the actors' facial expressions.
Which may be the problem for you, being bad with faces and all.

Hmm. I think that things which are right to cut for a movie still might have helped with the problem I had with too damn much going on at the same time. Breaks, you know?

Ah. Hmm. Yes. I bet I was distracted by too much going on to be paying enough attention to facial expressions.

Date: 2005-10-12 07:33 pm (UTC)Her facial expression expressed the following things:
"Your suggestion is not true."
"You're being stupid for even thinking of that."
"I care about you, and trust you, because otherwise, I wouldn't be making this face."
It was the sort of face that a sister might make to a brother, if they cared about each other, and teased each other in a friendly way.
So it did a lot of things very well -- but only for people in the audience who can read faces.
