I have such strange ideas when falling asleep.

I really, really want chrome (or some other metallic color) hair dye. Or iridescent hair dye. Or mother of pearl or opal or moonstone!

(Of course, even if these existed, they'd likely have the same pain-in-the-butt problem as the purple dye I have, including the staining everything insight problem and the having to paint it on problem. But. Want!)

Nail polish would probably be both easier and more likely. :)

I ask [livejournal.com profile] deyo, now and then, what non-natural color he thinks I look good in, and he keeps saying, "But I like that color." But iridescent? Cool. :)

Some of the more colorful birds have their color due to iridescence rather than pigment.

birds: Yes; I was thinking of peacock feathers, among other things.

deyo's reply to non-natural color query: somehow, I am utterly unsurprised at that reply. ;)

I have some metallic chrome nail polish, if you want to play with it :).

Maybe! I believe that both [livejournal.com profile] ladytabitha and [livejournal.com profile] ayalanya also have some, which amuses me.

Manic Panic Virgin Snow will give you mother of pearl white hair, but to give it the proper overtones you'll need to streak it with something else very lightly. Mystic Heather might do it... Here's a Manic Panic color chart. (http://haircrazy.info/index.php?menu_id=3&article=22)

Metallic hair dye would be difficult because it would have to coat the hair with a thick enough layer of the metal to make it reflective. For that you'd have to electroplate the hair. I suppose you could dip the ends of your hair into electroplating solution, but I'd want to practice with hair that had been cut first. My guess is that the strands would clump together.

Whoa. The fact that you have an idea how mother of pearl might be done is fascinating me, but the fact that it's probably _more_ annoying than the purple hair dye (due to needing to use two dyes) makes me unlikely to do it.

Metallic dye: Yeah. I suspected that it would be very difficult to do to actually be reflective, which is unfortunate.

I stopped being amazed by Bill -- or rather, I stopped being surprised, I'm still amazed -- after I saw the custom Edwardian gowns he whipped out of a sewing machine for [livejournal.com profile] rivka.

Yeah, I don't think it was surprise on my end. But, damn - spontaneous Edwardian gowns is impressive!

Combine what I know from physics with what I know from having a daughter who spent several years managing a goth club on weekends, and I have a fair range of unusual information available to me.

The more I've thought about electroplating hair, the less I think you should do it. The electronic properties of human hair don't match up at all with the electronic properties of metals. I think you'd be better off just putting glitter in your hair.

My! Yes, I can see that.

electroplating hair: wasn't actually intending to try that, no. Prefer to avoid putting things in my hair unless they are supposed to be there! ;)
