I am very entertained by the nearly even split in my sweaty palms/bottoms of feet poll.

Now, of course, I'm wondering what causes people to have or not have that happen to them.

I knew, I note, that sweaty palms was often interpreted as a fear reaction, and not a temperature reaction. But I did _not_ realize that not everyone has them as a heat reaction. Of course, the humidity factor also comes into play, since I'm not sure if I notice my palms being sweaty if it's hot but not humid (rare, around here, but happens). And I definitely don't notice the bottoms of my feet being sweaty if I'm not wearing sandals.

Sweaty socks is less clear, since it could be the rest of one's foot, and not the bottom, doing it.

And I'm wondering if those strange people who think that wearing socks and sandals is wrong happen to have been people for whom the bottom of their feet don't sweat.

Anyway. Mostly, I find the sweaty palms thing annoying because it means I have no grip in order to open things, and everything sticks to my palms when they are damp. And the feet thing is part of why I tend to avoid shoes in summer, since it means my feet are slippery in my sandals.

As a datapoint, yes, I do find it weird to wear socks and sandals (actually, I find it a tad gross, as socks get all icky from street dirt), and to the best of my knowledge the bottoms of my feet don't sweat, at least not unless the entire rest of me does.

My palms may sweat a bit when it's very, very humid, but they are unlikely to do that from mere heat.

I don't quite get that either, except that on really cold but not slushy days in the winter (which are probably more common here in the Midwest than in New England), I'll wear cotton socks under ragg wool socks, and "classic" leather Birkenstocks.

Yeah, sweating feet slipping around inside a sandal is kind of gross. I wear Chacos when I have to have shoes on; they have a pretty good grippy surface on the top of the sole which helps. And even when I "have to" wear shoes, I pop my feet out of them almost immediately upon sitting down anyway, which helps. I'd give you my standard answer advising eschewing shoes and socks in order to keep feet dry, but I suspect you're probably barefoot most of the time anyway.
