It's really awesome; we just spent a good half hour watching. Wow.
I made the mistake of putting our garbage can a little ways out in the road (garbage pickup's tommorow) and psongster and I were watching as it sailed majestically away down the street on the rushing water. Without tipping over. It was out of sight fairly quickly. She's off to retrieve it now.
We have them, but not as often as much of the rest of the country does, and just not as dramatic. (There are parts of California with more impressive ones, but our particular geography doesn't lend itself to them.)
On the other hand, folks here just don't tend to think of lightning as dangerous. Many of us have no healthy respect for it.
Aaaah. Yeah. That's unfortunate. Then again, though, the last place I was in got nearly no lightning storms, and _NOTHING_ like this one.
The lightnight last night was powerful - and close - enough that the thunder made the house shake a couple of times. I was impressed. My poor kitty hates thunderstorms, though...
Hmm! Yes. I don't think the storm got quite that close to me, but yes.
I believe that my desktop has a surge protector, although my laptop doesn't. And I'm not sure if my cable modem _can_ be surge protected (in terms of the cable line, not the power line). Hmm...
Does he intend to get surge protectors, I hope? :)
(And yes, I can hear you saying it while you look like that, perhaps simultaneously looking around to find your scared kitty and dragging me off to bed...)

Yep, yep, and yep! :)
Ash was _NOT_ happy about the thunder. Any time I got near him he's mew in a 'please make it stop, mom' kind of way.

Also, yes: Very much the right icon. ;)
