theferrett link, Every morning, my mother and I get up to go visit my grandmother's grave. It's a very nice place by cemetery standards; it has linoleum floors, and walls with construction paper cutouts of sunflowers, and windows with sunlit atriums.
We press the buzzer and walk through the hallways to my grandmother's bed, where she sits, senseless, and we mourn for an hour. Then we go home.
It is a ritual of unending grief.
