*grin* I find I tend to mis-name when I'm exasperated. I don't think I've ever confused names during a warmfuzzy moment, but when I'm calling someone's name to grouch at them, occasionally I default wrongly. (At least a couple of times I grouched at a friend by an SO's name, too, which amused him to no small degree, which made it that much harder to deliver a good bitching. Very tough when they are giggling at you for a good reason).

I mix names up frequently, largely because names aren't how I think of people. This is probably part of why I don't use names. I'm most likely to mix names up if something needs out of my head _NOW_, but in those cases I'm rarely in a situation where I need to use a name to get someone's attention. Thankfully.

And I mix names up far less frequently in writing than spoken, interestingly.

When I annoy my wife, I don't (much) mind being referred to by my brother-in-laws' name, a friend's name, or even one of the kids names. But when I get grumped at using the cat's name, well, that's just wrong.

I _think_ my parents never called me by the cats names, nor by any of my brothers' names. But then, there _were_ three of each, so...

I use the cat's name on both kids and the spouse, and theirs on each other. Hopeless.
