I have immense love of the Tags feature. I can get rid of most of my memories, since this is a much cleaner method of keeping track of the things I tend to want to keep track of that I write! Yay!

Yes, although I'm finding myself modifying the words I use, as well as the categories. So this is probably better anyway. :)

Keep in mind that only 100 entries with a particular tag will be displayed.

Also! You can tag things by the monthyear so people can browse earlier entries easily without clicking for each post on the calendar month page.

But, I don't see why one would do monthyear when the calendar view is just as easy?

Same reason someone would do tags instead of memories; people can see the text of posts rather than clicking on them individually.

Ah, I see. To the first, sad! To the second, I don't organize things by date most of the time, so wouldn't feel inspired to do this. :)

I don't organize things by date per se, but it would be a good way for a newcomer to my journal to look at the older posts. As well as me, if I want to see full text what I wrote when.

If I turned off lj-cuts for a bit, I could even do full-text search month by month...
