animals: There was apparently both a cat and a dog (dog was apparently not allowed), and I can't quite tell what the scent is exactly, other than strong and unpleasant.
And yes, I also wonder what Ash'll think of it, especially since I know that cats are likely to urinate places which have that scent already. We shall see! Getting the carpet replaced was an option, but one that would increase the monthly rent to higher than I can afford.
