[livejournal.com profile] conuly posts about some girls who were sued for surprise cookie deliveries. Because _that_'s a great way to teach people to be kind to each other.

Clearly I should never knock on a neighbor's door, lest I cause an injury and be sued. Sheesh.

I can see sueing them for delivering bad cookies. I think this woman needs some psychological help, and the judge should be ashamned for enabling her delusions.

Agreed on both counts.

Once upon a time I was going through a door and it accidentally bumped the arm of an old woman. I immediately apologized, but she didn't even look at me, instead clutching her arm and having this expression on her face as if she had suffered an unjust and mean-spirited attack by someone who clearly thought about nobody but himself. Or something along those lines. It made me think how horrible it would be to go through life thinking that way, unable to hear an apology.

Indeed.

Sounds very unpleasant to me, that does.

I'd like to point out that journalism sucks nearly all of the time, and there might have been all sorts of factors that were too complicated to put in the story. We aren't told what her medical bills were for or in fact anything that was told to the jury. You can make any case look outrageous by selective editing -- if there aren't two viable sides, a case usually settles out of court.

Noted. Which only makes me wish I could get more information about it. But noted.
