Huh. The ankle I sprained while walking around in San Franscisco a few weeks ago still gives me unhappy twinges when I am in certain positions. It's not a position I _have_ to use, but it is one I like to use. Namely, sitting cross-legged, or really any position in which my right foot is under me.

I can't decide if the problem is that I did more damage to it than I thought, or perhaps that it's just not finished with being slightly tender.

Weird. My sprains don't normally have effects lasting _nearly_ this long. Then again, I also normally catch myself a little earlier into the process of spraining my ankle and/or falling.

A true sprain takes a very, very, long time to fully heal. Up to a year in many cases. Be gentle with it.

i've done a bunch of recouperating of ankle injuries (play ultimate, much?), and really the best thing you can do is not put any weight on it until it's fully healed. i know it's a pain in the ass (and probably too late now) but it really works as far as fast healing goes.

did it swell at all? is there still swelling? hot compresses at this point will help soothe some of the pain and make the swelling go down. so will ibuprofin.

anyway, yeah, don't push it. the less stress you put on it, the stronger it will heal, and the less likely you'll be to reinjure it.

Not entirely sure it was a true sprain, because I _could_ walk on it afterward. It was definitely on the way to becoming one if I had no caught myself, though.

I've walked on sprains directly after getting them before, so that in and of itself doesn't tell you much. People react to pain differently, and a lot of external factors are related to that.

Hmm... ok.

Then I have no idea if it is a true sprain or not. :)

Ow. :(

Sprains can take real time to heal. I think being gentle's a good thing.

Sprains can be a pain for quite a while. I generally keep my ankle wrapped until it stops twinging, and that seems to help speed the healing process.

Ditto what everyone else says.

If it doesn't bug your stomach, one thing frequently recommended to me for soft-tissue injuries is to do a short (say, 5-day) course of Advil, whether or not it hurts. This basically gives your body a break from inflammation to heal.

I would expect it to be a little sore for a while when you ask it to do strange things (like be sat upon). As long as it goes away after you move it, probably not too much to worry?

Yeah, not worried. Just... baffled. And annoyed that I can't sit the way I want! :)

Makes you really appreciate the flexibility of the human body, though, doesn't it?

Yes! Yes, it does. :)

Can you sit with them crossed the other way? I don't mind, but I know some people only like one way :)

With the other leg on the bottom!

Ah. Hasn't seemed to matter which of them is on the bottom. :)
