I think that your explanation only continued to confuse me, but I figured it out.
a) You are familiar with Boston in wintertime. b) You are familiar changing to the opposite season when you go to the US c) You have only been to my Boston-ish place in the summertime. So: You theoretically realize that there will be snow here, and have in fact seen snow in this general area many times, but as you have not actually been at _my_ place - specifically - in the wintertime, you cannot actually really understand it.
