[health.kidney stone]

So, I'm officially miserable.
Crashed at a friend's place last night in order to not have to drive as far to my doctor's appointment at which I hoped to get the possibility of sleep apnea investigated (or at least start the process).
At around 5am, I was awakened by what I believe to be a kidney stone on my right side. I am, however, also nauseous - which meant that I can't keep pain killers down, and it is fairly difficult to keep fluids down so as to encourage it to pass. (I have had kidney stones before, ~2 years ago) Not sure if the nausea is related to the intense pain or if I have that cold that's going around.
I suspect that I was not drinking enough while in SF, and almost certainly was not drinking enough this week due to severe exhaustion. Thus, the stone.
So, now, I'm even more exhausted, didn't manage to talk to my doctor about it because I was in too much pain and incoherent due to exhaustion, and in fairly major pain (but less intensely than this morning, which suggests to me that it's not currently moving). And I can't easily keep anything down. And I only managed to drive myself home about 1 hour ago.
Going to go attempt to continue to drink fluids to encourage movement of the stone, and will likely ping the urologist I talked to the last time this happened, tomorrow. Assuming it doesn't pass, of course. Don't know how much I'll be online in the near future.
Fucking kidneys stones.

Date: 2005-01-07 08:02 pm (UTC)Probably because the last time this happened, it ended up passing _right_ before surgery, so I ended up having had surgery when I didn't need to.
Also, intensely unpleasant though it is, I'm startlingly good at waiting through pain, when I know what's going on.

Date: 2005-01-06 11:50 pm (UTC)You will appreciate this, the only way I seem to be able to consistently drink eight or more glasses of fluid a day is to keep a mental count, every day. The start of me getting kidney stones coincided approximately with my first desk/office job. I had one about two year after starting that job and then one about every two years till I finally set a strong routine to fluid intake. Prior to that I was generally more physically active and moving around which seem to give me more frequent natural impulses to drink water.

I don't suppose that helps.
