I was suddenly grabbed by the idea that I've seen many other people use, where they suggest that people comment anonymously in their journal.

So! IP logging is off, and anonymous posting is allowed (neither of these are changes from normal, actually). Tell me something! Anything! Be secretive and yet spark my curiosity at the same time. Make me crazy, wondering who posted what. :)

Be silly! Be crazy! Be brutally honest! Confuse me, entertain me, make me laugh too hard to breathe!

[Note: If there are cruel comments posted, no matter who they are about or aimed at, I will delete them. Go elsewhere to do that kind of thing. (honesty is fine. Cruelty is not)

I don't actually expect it to be a problem, as I cannot think of any time that anyone has posted anything nasty or cruel on my journal, but I wanted to have stated it anyway.]

Is your giddy not-quite-human persona real or a construct?

I just laughed so hard I scared away my cat.

Thank you!

(I AM A CONSTRUCT!)

(Hmm. Maybe I'm a really elaborate AI, and no one knows!)

Well, we all put together some parts of our personality. Given how much time you've put into figuring out interactions with people, this doesn't sound that innaccurate. Silly, yes. Innaccurate?

(A different anonymous poster) (though I suspect my style gives me away anyway :-})

Actually, it was your choice of emoticon that gave you away.

Not for me - it was the writing, although the emoticon did confirm it. :)

Also - putting together parts of my personality != construct. I think.

At least not in the typical definition of such!

I wonder why a person constructing themselves is not usually therefore a construct! Hmm...

Yes, We must find this brain and capture it. Give it a Turing test. What will be the result, do you think? I think the sparks this one gives off and leaping about this brain does will break the equipment myself.

If my brain is giving off sparks and leaping about, how would you even get it sufficiently close to the equipment for testing, let alone breaking the equipment?

DESTRUCTO BRAIN!

Or at least hyper brain! (hyper brain!!!)

Dropping into RPG character mode

Ah, stalking the wild brain. I believe there was an article in last month'sparadigma on the topic. Yes, here it is. It starts out thusly: "Most brains found in the wild are not much different from their domestic cousin. One may approach them as one would a normal domestic brain and utilize standard techniques to capture and herd them. However, there are a few truly exceptional specimens to be found. These rare specimens when found will first reveal themselves by how they do not fall for the usual techniques of capture. Their range of motion and quick movement will cause domestic brain herders great difficulty. What is more, these exceptional specimens are often found in packs that form cooperative groups that will work together to avoid capture. When first encountered and recognized it is highly recommended that inexperienced trappers back away slowly while keeping the target is sight, so as to avoid loss of dignity. Trapping these exceptional specimens requires highly advanced techniques used by experienced trappers and, even then, is most often a fruitless endeavor. Even experienced trappers can fall prey to their quarry if they are not careful. This article details all of the known techniques for approaching these highly prized creatures and discussed the advantages and weakness of each. The practical techniques involved are best practiced under the tutelage of a master."

I see the article is much longer then I recalled. I will have to study this at some length.

BRAIN STALKING!

And how many do you catch?

And what do you do with them later?

Oooh, someone beat me to it. I was going to say, both in game and in real life, not nearly enough. Though in one of the two I do have a brain in a jar.

Jar brains.

Are they like the ones in Futurama, and still able to hold conversations?

Oh. I guess those are heads and not just brains...

It's difficult for a brain to talk, having no mouth!

I do like the Etherite gadgets, but their style of thought leaves much to be desired. Most Strange.

The RPG character I wrote this from the perspective of is a Son of Ether (http://www.white-wolf.com/Games/Pages/MagePreview/sonsofether.html) from a Mage game, by White Wolf. They use a lot of physical gadgets to do their "magic". Think of your classic mad scientist gone more then a little bit into fantasy land. I usually do this character in my my best John Astin impersonation, ala his character from Brisco County, with a bit of Christopher Lloyd from Back to the Future thrown in for good measure.

Ah, but they do get the desired results done in the end, yes? What is more important the method or the results?

Depends on the side-effects of the method.

That's the nice bit about transforming serious into silly. This just happens sometimes yet you get to claim credit. Like a cat, "I meant to do that."

I meant to do that.

Yes! Although I tend to be bad at indicating that I intended to do something that I didn't intend to do. *shrug* :)
