[words] I use strange words...
Nov. 22nd, 2004 03:28 pmAnd sometimes I forget this fact, until someone gets confused. My ability to define things is... somewhat lacking, so anyone who feels like correcting (or shortening!) any of these would be appreciated.
earworm - I think I picked this up from alt.polyamory - a noun used to describe a song that is stuck in one's head. Also used to describe songs which tend to be easy to get stuck in one's head (ie, 'earworm warning'). Can also be verbed 'to earworm'.
frubbly - alt.polyamory again - an alternative word for 'compersion', meaning the happiness you feel because of someone else's happiness. Most often seen (by me, at least) in relation to someone being happy for one's sweetie(s)'s NRE for someone else. I believe 'frubbly' (and variations) came into existance because 'compersion' sounds too clinical and not sufficiently bouncy. I prefer 'frubble' and 'frubbly' for that reason, at least. 'to be frubbly' or 'to frubble' are both valid, from what I can tell.
NRE - ok, I got a lot of things from alt.poly - New Relationship Energy (also known as Disney Chemicals). More or less, the happy, giddy, Oh Em Gee reaction to a new relationship, where lots and lots of one's energy is going toward the new person, possibly to the expense of already existing relationships.
fuzzle - I think this came from somewhere in furry fandom, perhaps Furtoonia or FurryMUCK - I picked it up as a verb meaning using nails/claws in a rapid, back and forth movement, in someone's hair/scalp, but that may not actually be accurate.
scritch - also from furry fandom - a verb similar to fuzzle, but more leisurely and less specific about type of movement (but still involving nails/claws and hair/scalp). Again, I may not be completely accurate in my usage.
Hmm. I feel like I have more words like this. I also feel a bit like I'm posted something like this before. Anyone know of any other words they had to have me explain?

Date: 2004-11-22 09:02 pm (UTC)I didn't realise you such trouble, or I would have been so playful, teasing and so on.
Sorry.

I believe that I actually specifically indicated interest in you using Australian slang at me, because I like to learn new words for things. :)
Also... Some Australian slang, quite recently.
From multiple different places! :)

I believe that what you just tried to use is not necessarily supported by all browsers at this point.

Date: 2004-11-22 10:29 pm (UTC)I get that feeling. :(
I do so very much <3 "frubbly", though. :D
I took a lucky guess and found it
Date: 2004-11-22 10:32 pm (UTC)ampersand hearts, with an s on the end of heart.
Re: I took a lucky guess and found it
Date: 2004-11-23 12:03 am (UTC)Okay, I tried that at work, and all I saw was: "ampersand-hearts". With an s on the end. So I tried different variations. When I tried it without the s, I accidetally clicked "post comment", then gave up and left it as is.
When I received e-mail notification of this response, it also says: "amersand-hearts". But now that I actually look at it in Wispfox's journal, I clearly see a little &hearts there.
"&hearts" being an actually little heart, when I see it up there.
I L&heartsVE "Frubbly".
Re: I took a lucky guess and found it
Date: 2004-11-23 12:53 am (UTC)That or you need non-letter things surrounding that symbol!

It's just got a vicious sense of humor.

Date: 2004-11-22 10:15 pm (UTC)Earworm I initially encountered from you here on your LJ. I admit to being confused by it at first and thought it might be a media reference of some sort, the first Star Trek movie came to mind. Later context cleared that up.

Date: 2004-11-22 10:47 pm (UTC)Earworms make me think of Star Trek, still. Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!
The real question is, where did you pick up brainmeats? And where did I pick up brainmeats? I was blathering that before encountering you. I'm tempted to say Zim, but only because Jhonen Vasquez is to blame for so many of my speech patterns.

Date: 2004-11-22 11:17 pm (UTC)Brainmeats: I don't think I use it (much?), but I would blame that on
I'm also not sure when I started calling people and things 'shiny', although I know it was _not_ because of Firefly. And, well, people and things _are_ shiny, sparkly, pretty! Oooooh shiny.
Actually, I may blame Sluggy Freelance and Kiki for 'shiny', as that's certainly the context I use it in!

Preeeeety goblets. I shall have to remember to show you my goblet when you visit my home in January. Although it's behind plastic right now (it's in a windowsill, and my windows are covered in plastic).
