Now, we wait to see what the determination is as far as what, if anything, can be done to reduce the likelyhood of my kitty having the evil happen again. I should get a call from the vet tomorrow.
I'm highly, highly amused that, when I decided to see what Ash would do if allowed to explore the car, his response was to lie down in the seat behind me, and wait quite patiently. So, out of curiosity, I decided to see what he would do if I drove home with him there. He stayed there the entire time, quite calmly.
Either he was trained at an early age to ride in the car, or he's even smarter than I thought. I also ended up deciding to see what he would do if I carried him in my arms, instead of in the carrier, up to my apartment.
He was quite patient until I opened the door to the hallway in which the door to my apartment exists (he knows this hallway, mind you, because he likes trying to get out and explore it), at which point he demanded to be put down so he could run ahead of me. He seemed a bit confused when he got up the stairs, until I pointed at our door and told him that was it. He then waited highly impatiently for me to unlock it.
Yes. This cat _really_ needs me to finish training him to a leash and harness. And I need to get him a more spacious (and more easy for him to see out of) carrying case, because while I'm impressed as hell with his willingness to sit in a seat, I'm too scared to drive with him loose, in case of an accident or a sudden stop.
He was certainly much, much happier about being in the car when not trapped, though!
