It's very worrisome to have one's cat yowling when urinating. It's more so when it happens twice.

I've called my vet (yes, they _are_ 24 hours, athough just emergency is available right now). They said that, as long as he's still passing urine, he's fine to wait until they open at 7am. I will, however, be calling at 7am, precisely.

I still may end up using Emergency, if they have no regular hours open in the morning. If nothing else, he feels really hot to the touch.

Prayers and good thoughts for your little kitty.

I love kitties. I hate hearing when they don't do well.

i empathize, immensely.

i think he'll be OK though. a trip to the vet, and some either antibiotics, or a change in diet and you'll be good :) i will be keeping you both in my thoughts.

*wry* Yeah, I know you do. I'm just startled that he seems to be fine right now. Kinda suspicious of it, but unwilling to make him have to deal with the vet when he might have recovered on his own (which I know can happen in humans, too, or I'd be really skeptical).

Vet Tech mode strikes again! :)

May want to take him in soon, just to be safe...they may want to put him on antibiotics...boy kitties have such a hard time sometimes with blockages from crystals (cats have a humongusly concentrated urine, due to their used-to-be desert status way-back-when) and if he does block, it could possibly be fatal...shut down the kidneys and such :(

It IS good he is passing some urine though!

They may also recommend a special diet which breaks down crystals, if he does not have an infection in the urine or bladder. Good stuff, a good prevention-type thing.

Good luck!
(and I don't mean to sound like I am lecturing at all, I hope it didn't come across that way!!!)

Oh! Not something I knew.

Well, they did say to bring him in immediately if he stops urinating at all (or he's being especially lethargic), but now I'm scared to have left him alone today (even though the person I talked to on the phone at emergency said it was fine). How fast could that happen?

Yeah; I was hoping to find out what, if anything, I can be doing to prevent this, because he sounded so _sad_... Not so much like he was in pain (although the only 'in pain' sound I know is a yelp when he gets underfoot), but like he was all alone and really really _sad_ about it. Not that in pain is better, of course - either way, I'd like to prevent this!
