Yes, to the first. To at least some extent, I was tired of my job. I originally took it because they offered it and were going to be paying me when the last place I was at effectively (but not entirely) went out of business. I never really had any strong sense of loyalty, but there were no other startlingly excellent offers that I knew of, either.
Expecting it? Sorta. I knew there would be another layoff soon; as of Thursday of last week, I expected it would be this week. I was *not*, however, entirely sure that I would be one of the people laid off. I had never really expected to last much beyond June, since sometime last year. So I wasn't *that* far off, and have had my resume reasonably updated since May of this year.
Sorry to hear that. Just when I start to think things are turning around it seems there is a wave of layoffs running through my friends. On the plus side several people I know have gotten jobs recently too, so *shrug*. I'm just holding my breath and hoping the state doesn't decide to let go its contractors.
*Decides not to tell a coworker how once I'm done with this I could just give her the utility and have her run it when she needs it* Adding runs file compare utility script to my job description won't help my resume but it makes me appear harder to do without.
Thanks for the hugs! Although, with the humidity outside right now? Hmm.... ;)
I'll just have to invite you into my central air equipt house before giving you your hugs. ;)
Glad to hear you are being optimistic about this! That was the worst part when I went through my last bout of unemployment. Hopelessness is just not a useful emotion, but get around it wasn't easy either.
Yep. Hopelessness is certainly one of the more difficult emotional states to deal with. However, I'm still early in the unemployment state, and it's summertime. It's very difficult for me to feel hopeless in summertime. Wintertime, however, is a different story.
Not terribly surprised. Annoyed, because hunting for jobs is annoying, and because if things get bad enough I'd have to crash with family. Probably not for a few months, though, at least. Glad, to some extent, as I was tired of my job anyway.
Ass-kicking? Maybe that of the dude in charge of finances... naw. I'm sure those who are left are going to be giving him more than enough crap. But thanks for the offer! It's very sweet of you, and made me laugh when I read it. :)
Interviewing is going well; now I just wait for some sort of contact this week. The main person I was interviewing with went on vacation this week (part of why last week's stuff was so very speedy), but I still need to talk to HR.
Fuck!
Date: 2003-06-25 08:45 am (UTC)Is it totally inappropriate to ask if this means I'll get some extra day time mosaicing?!?! :>
Re: Public Service Announcment
Date: 2003-06-25 11:52 am (UTC)I do get unemployment, yes - can start collecting on my official end date of July 4th, although I get to stop being at work as of around 2 today.
Maybe on the mosaicing - I'll want to spend the next few days looking intently for work, but after that will probably welcome extra breaks. :)

Date: 2003-06-25 11:06 am (UTC)On the bright side, the job market does seem a bit better now than it was the last time around, so I'm sure you'll find another job soon.
