I get _strange_ songs in my head, sometimes.

Right now, it's "The Lonely Goatherd", _Sound of Music_.

Which I haven't seen in years and years. What the hell, brain?!

(yes, my brain is filled with musicals. And religious folk songs. Hey, I was in the folk group at a roman catholic church for years and years and years until I realized that that was _not_ my religion. The folk group part was fun, though. Other songs, too, but those two types are more strange than most)

High on a hill was a lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
Loud was the voice of the lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

Folks in a town that was quite remote heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
Lusty and clear from the goatherd's throat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

O ho lay dee odl lee o, o ho lay dee odl ay
O ho lay dee odl lee o, lay dee odl lee o lay

A prince on the bridge of a castle moat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
Men on a road with a load to tote heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

Men in the midst of a table d'hote heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
Men drinking beer with the foam afloat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

One little girl in a pale pink coat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
She yodeled back to the lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

Soon her Mama with a gleaming gloat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
What a duet for a girl and goatherd

Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

Ummm (ummm)...
Odl lay ee (odl lay ee)
Odl lay hee hee (odl lay hee hee)
Odl lay ee ...
... yodeling ...

One little girl in a pale pink coat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hoo hoo
She yodeled back to the lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

Soon her Mama with a gleaming gloat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hmm hmm
What a duet for a girl and goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

Happy are they lay dee olay dee lee o ...
... yodeling ...
Soon the duet will become a trio
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

Odl lay ee, old lay ee
Odl lay hee hee, odl lay ee
Odl lay odl lay, odl lay odl lee, odl lay odl lee
Odl lay odl lay odl lay

HOO!

Okay, my bad spelling aside, that was really just me remembering Julie Andrews yodeling. It's all about the yodeling.

*blinks* You people are yodeling in my journal.

I'm simultaneously very amused and frightened.

(then again, lower down is a request to, effectively, have _me_ yodeling)

Nonono, the puppets! It's all about the puppets!

(Okay, the yodeling is a bit important too. And memorable. Yes. Definitely memorable.)

(Don't worry about the spelling, it's just onomatopoeia. Highly subjective.)

I'm very sorry. Of course, the only way to get a bad song out of your head is to get a worse one stuck in there.

DARN IT! that's a very sticky song, y'know.

NPR or Muppets?

The Sound of Music got a mention yesterday on NPR, actually I heard it on a canadian show As It Happens on NHPR. Somebody put out a list of the 100 top movie songs. Perhaps you heard it in passing? Either that or you've been watching the Muppets DVD with Julie Andrew as a guest, she sings that song on it.

My wife and I have a cure for a stuck song. The song Toy Cows in Africa, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=toy+cows+in+africa , seems to drive out a stuck song but not be sticky itself. At least this works for us, YMMV.

By the way, Hi. I'm relatively new to live journal. In following links to friends of friends I found your journal and your sense of humor seems to jell with mine so I figured I drop in a bit of randomness occasionally.

Hi! I do appear to collect people reading my journal in the most _random_ ways. :)

Welcome! 'Tis fairly unlikely that I will add you, as I read too many people as it is, but I also don't post much that isn't public.

Please reference [livejournal.com profile] prolixfootle's exceedingly amusing monograph (http://home.neo.rr.com/prolixfootle/images/Social%20Entities.htm) on "Sorting of Interpersonal Cooperation: Kindred and Novel Entity Societal Support".

Also, this post (http://www.livejournal.com/community/_infp_/77852.html) in [livejournal.com profile] _infp_ on "no reason" and "tangential thinking".

That was amusing. It reminded me of a lexicon of gammer types I read years ago in White Dwarf I think.

I did like the no reason thread. I'm more of an NT but that kind of thing tickles the senses every once in awhile.

I recommend joining (or at least lurking in) [livejournal.com profile] jmbt_intp (if applicable) and [livejournal.com profile] ntpersonality.

I have pretty strong NT traits (http://www.livejournal.com/users/bridgetester/21333.html), myself, which is mixed with NF (http://www.livejournal.com/users/bridgetester/6389.html) in a lot of ways.

Competency and Knowledge are Good Things. They must also be balanced by Compassion.

I have traits from around the NT map and usually test out at ENTJ but the J part is borderline. The NT is pretty well pegged. My wife says she appreciates 90% of my logical and rational ways and the last 10% drives her absolutely nuts.

S'ok by me. My journal has mostly been pretty mundane so far anyway. I need to peruse my silly and spontaneous side more.

Why Songs Get Stuck (http://www.uc.edu/news/kellaris.htm)

(My brain is also filled with musicals. And religious songs. And other random chorus songs. They escape occasionally. ((The songs, not the chorus.)) And somehow, don't frighten the people I'm around. I think that says something about those people. Maybe. ^_^)

I'm nifty? Yay! [livejournal.com profile] wispfox thinks I'm nifty! *bounces and adds to mental list of compliments to look at when melancholy*

(Oh. That's more accurate. But sometimes it's "frighten" in a good way. Is that possible? I think so. Yes. It is. Just Because I Said So. *beams*)

*grins* If I didn't think you were nifty, why would I have complained about your location? :)

(frighten in good way? Yes. Possible. Sometimes.)

Twue. But there's a emotional value difference to me between complaining about location and actual compliments. Both are appreciated, mind you. :)

(I'm simultaneously very amused and frightened. (http://www.livejournal.com/users/wispfox/281178.html?thread=1539162#t1539162)

Yay! You think so too! *amused bouncing*)

I'm in an exceedingly silly and fidgety mood. You tend to promote such moods. This is a good thing.

Excellent! That's a very good talent to have, I think. ;)

Thank you for the link. This is good stuff to have.

I continually have music running through my head. One reason for liking Sarah McLachlan as I do is that her music is able to drive most of the rest out of my brain...

You're welcome. :)

No idea where I originally found the link, but it was most likely on LJ somewhere. Disregarding the irrelevant origins, it's quite interesting. I'm sure marketers have studied the article in great detail, if not used those same principles for years. :P at them

Hmm... I either have music running through my head, or I don't. I can turn it on when I think about it, but it's awfully difficult to turn it back off again.

Perhaps someone should make a collection of the "fix the brainsticking" songs. *muses* So far, it's been Sarah McLachlan and that Toy Cows in Africa (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=toy+cows+in+africa) song [livejournal.com profile] ian_gunn mentioned further up.
