morrowind is EVIL! I lost so many hours in it. Never finished the quest though, I ended up gettng lost near a mountain somewhere and just gave up after putting in about 40 hours.
yeah, having a physical map helps. You can walk EVERYWHERE if you want to. random fights are frequent though. there are patches you can get though so that animals in the wild only attack if you attack or if they are diseased. cuts down on the hack/slash/heal part of the game and then you can focus more on adventuring.
You can also get rides/magical transportation from place to place. doesn't cost much and makes the game go more quickly. But sometimes you have to go WAY off the beaten path and can only get there by wandering.
That's the trouble with a non-linear game...distractions:) really easy to get sidetracked on mini-quests.

Ooooh. I might want that. Although initially at least, the experience from fighting things might be useful. Exploring, _fun_, m'kay?
makes the game go more quickly.
But is that a _good_ thing?

And, I'm very easy to distract. This could be entertaining. ;)
*nod* just check out the morrowind web site for addons. lots of user created ones out there. another one I found useful was actually having the city names on the signs. in-game they're only someweird fake language that you can't read and have to mouseover.
fast travel is good, the game can go on forever, especially with the expansions:)
Fortunately, the automapping stuff is really good, so you don't get REALLY lost. Just kinda turned around sometimes, when you're trying to remember EXACTLY where something is.
also, there is the nintendo, if you are so inclined. it takes a lot of encouragement though, if you happen to decide to play a game other than the one already in there.
Really? *impressed* Most computer games do not have that effect on me, although Neverwinter Nights got close before my computer decided it hated it. I was, however, warned about this by the co-worker who indirectly recommended it to me. :)
It's the kind of game that rewards replaying. There's a lot to see and do, and there are some things you can only do one way each time through (such as joining one of the major houses).
I played it through once, used what I learned the second time, and then bought the (300+ page) strategy guide to find out what I missed out on. There was a lot.
Suggestion: Enchant a staff with constant effect Chameleon and Levitation. (Use a Grand Soul Gem with a Golden Saint soul.) That way, you can fly anywhere you wish without being attacked by anything. Makes getting around very easy. And if you get the God's Fire spell from the mage upstairs at Dirty Muriel's you will be very, very dangerous. You can do stealth napalm runs.
Morrowind addictive, mind-stealing and evil? Naaaaaahhhhh.....

I'm playing the Game of the Year edition for Xbox right now... Again. From the beginning. This is probably my fifth time through.
