I am here! And have been since ~9am local time yesterday (it's ~7:15am local time right now).

Jet lag had me awake at 5:30 this morning, but that's better than suddenly being wide awake at 2am Melbourne time on the plane here. And I was _SO_ tired yesterday, but refused to go to sleep before sunset. (tried to nap earlier in the day, and failed miserably)

Culture shock: check. Mostly because any new big city seems to cause that reaction in me, but also because overwhelmedness makes that stronger. Entertainingly, the plant life periodically kept reminding me of Florida, and the house appearance (color and shape) kept making me think of both Florida and San Francisco. The culture shock, however (due both to exhaustion/jet lag and new city) kept making me think the signs should not be in English (ditto spoken language). Probably because the first significant experience I had with jet lag was going to Spain.

No real sense of anything, yet, due to confused brain. I do have hope, at least, that it won't be a full week before my brain switches time zones.

I'm annoyed that I can't get linux to see the wireless access point, because it means I'm only able to get online from the windows side of my laptop. And that I can't get on work's VPN in order to _not_ have a stupid amount of email to read when I return. Ah, well.

Not been reading anyone's journal, and I note that it's likely to be very sporatic when I do. :)

I miss my kitty and my roommate simultaneous with being really excited about being here, and with being happy that I'm with [livejournal.com profile] australian_joe instead of missing him. La!

Also! Mood improvement from sunlight took a few hours, at most. And this is included the sheer exhaustion from travel and jet lag. (this probably means that my reaction to having less light when I return will _also_ be really quick, sadly)

I get cold _way_ too easily. No idea what temperature it was, but I kept having trouble with being cold anytime the wind blew, much to the bemusement of [livejournal.com profile] australian_joe. Admittedly, I got the sense that yesterday wasn't _that_ hot out. And yes, I was wearing pants, not shorts (at one point changed from linen to jeans), and a t-shirt. Sometimes, I would add a button down flannel shirt, and sometimes an alpaca sweater on top of that. Seriously, I was _COLD_ (mosty started being _really_ cold a few hours before sundown).

Still, no winter coat, and no long underwear. And the jeans aren't lined. So, yay. :)
