The US Senate is scheduled to vote on the implementation of a national ID card system, _today_. Most fascinatingly, it has apparently never been debated on the US Senate floor, or talked about in any committee, and has been slipped into a another bill that would keep our fighting men and women taken care of in Iraq and Afghanistan.
