Leadership and management class
Nov. 29th, 2023 03:54 pmOne of the classes I'm taking is for leadership and management. It's funny because I do not want to manage anyone. Mentoring, sure, but not managing.
a) I'm great at working with people to help them with things and understanding where they are coming from, but it drains me severely. So I can do it on a mentoring basis, but not more than that comfortably.
b) I'm not good at my _own_ schedule, let alone representing and helping others with their schedules.
c) I would really not do well with constant meetings, especially given my trouble with auditory input.
If I were offered the option to be a manager but with an out, I might try, Because I might be wrong, but I do not think so. And I feel like having that option is rare, that of trying to be a manager but being able to stop after a trial period.

Date: 2023-12-04 07:19 pm (UTC)Getting somewhat less rare: in the corporate world, we're seeing the growth of "Team Lead Managers", which is a sort of halfway-point between a Team Lead (focused on the Stuff) and a People Manager for small groups. Smart places let folks move in and out of that track relatively freely. (At work, it's explicitly normal to be able to switch between that and a comparable IC role.)
But yes, it's still somewhat uncommon.
