Went on my own on Monday now that I have a pass for the year.

There was a recently fed barn owl looking very blinky:

Sleepy lynxes:

A raindeer _right_ by the fence:

P1010417

Hmm, aren't there three gators?

P1010421

... Oh. Hi.

P1010419

These two cranes were very chatty!

P1010422

See? Chatty (and yes, I was making noises back):

The blonde of these two has a baby wrapped around her middle, but it was approximately impossible to get a photo of:

Sleepy otters:

Very young flamingo!

Flamingos are noisy:

Also flappy:

Terns are hard to photograph through bars and screening, but if you want there are videos (the first is one of them trying to decide what to do about me, the second is the same one closer and really perplexed by me as I talk to it, and the third is of some of them making calls loud enough for the camera to pick up):

I don't remember the name of these birds ([livejournal.com profile] ratatosk might!), but they are rather silly. Unfortunately, I couldn't get good video of them, due to the messy glass.

P1010442

This is an agouti, I believe. It mostly just stares at me like I'm nuts (not that it's _wrong_, mind you...):

P1010447

This tamarin says "Hello, there is a kid on my back. What can you do, right?":

P1010448

Tamarins bouncing around:

A tamarin gets up close and personal:

Tree kangaroo says "what?":

P1010452

Roadrunner (male, who thinks he's human) looking fluffy:

P1010459

He's got some pretty feathers!

P1010460

This cougar came closer when a zookeeper wandered over to talk to him. He then proceeded to play with leaves:

... why is that bear _right_ up against the glass?

P1010465

Hello bear, what are you doing?

P1010468

"Right here! There's interesting things _right here_!"

P1010471

"Do you not understand that there are sniffs? So many sniffs!"

P1010472

There was, evidently, a small hole between the plexiglass and the frame it was in, and the bear was _fascinated_. The children who were there before me had been giving it sticks to see what the bear did, and largely it took them then flung them away. I tried blowing into where I knew the hole was, which also greatly interested the bear. So much sniffing! I am not _completely_ fearless around animals, as I did not put my face down by the hole and sniff back. Something about it being right next to the bear's enormous head. ;)

When I stopped playing with the bear in relation to the hole and the sniffs, it buggered off to pester the other bear in the enclosure. I will note that this was late enough in the day that it was probably less than 30 minutes until the zoo closed, and thus, the animals got fed.

"Hello, I are lynx."

P1010477

"Why is my sib pouncing on my head? Rawwwwwr!"

Little arctic fox, thank you for trying to move closer, but my camera _still_ insists on focusing on the bars...

P1010479

Pretty kitty...

P1010484

Snow leopards are gorgeous. And this one is waiting to be fed.

P1010485

They were playing, but I wasn't fast enough to catch a video, just this action shot:

Nice pics! I think the agouti is my favorite. Love that expression!
