There was classwork at 9am, as per the previous day. Went fine, few things I need to study for tomorrow's exam, but otherwise fine.
Asked people what the red things that look like a bunch of bite marks on my shoulder were, since they started itching last night, and they started hurting on contact today. No one nearby knew, so they sent me to the pharmacist (they have 6 years of medical training here). Once there, it was determined to be a form of herpes (I knew people got cold sores. I had _no_ idea people got shoulder sores!), and she gave me pills and a cream to help it go away faster. It's probably from stress, which honestly totally makes sense. If nothing else, the intense distress of last Friday when I missed my plane by 5 minutes... Since this showed up Saturday night while I was sleeping, it may be related. But seriously. I have herpes on my _SHOULDER_?! Took a few pictures, and asked a roommate to take one, so that I have a photo in case it's gone by the time I'm home. I'd like my doctor at home to at least be aware of it, y'know? Sadly, if it's gone, she can't do a swab test to be sure what it is.
Lunch, swim test (heh. Funny to do a swim test _after_ I've done some preliminary training), set up equipment which I am starting to be able to remember, and then the boat headed out to a dive site.
Into the water, buddy equipment check (the boat wasn't big enough to do that in the boat), then slow decent with ear popping constantly for the first bit. Down to the bottom, on sand (yay, sand; we can safely kneel on it and not hurt anything!), checked that I can handle finding my regulator if it gets out of my mouth that deep, checked that I can empty my mask of water if it gets full (I really do hate this part, although it is getting better as I get better at handling breathing through my mouth and not my nose with water in front of my nose suddenly), did some hovering above the bottom (yay, buoyancy control practice!). Then we swam for a while, slow decent by following the bottom until we get to the point that we are at our planned dive point. Was pretty crazy to keep track of so much stuff at once, so I didn't get to watch that much initially. Still, though _lots_ of fish. Didn't know there were purple plants under the water, but there totally are! Turned around, went back to the boat, and ascended slowly. Got in the boat, moved equipment to a full tank, and drank water (dehydration and scuba do _NOT_ mix. Higher chance of decompression sickness, even if you follow the appropriate procedures) and waited while we moved to a second dive site.
Back into the water, slow decent. Found some sand, got onto the bottom, more hovering practice. Got handed a slate & pencil, which were promptly attached to my gear, and a waterproof fish guide which could not attach to anything. Was more able to be aware of various creatures around me this time, which is good, since my task besides being underwater and all that was to identify various fish. Identified a few, although it's really _slow_ to look through a book for fish as I pass them! Among other things, the ones I actually remember were a few small flounder and a yellow stingray. Unfortunately, sometime after I wrote down the stingray, I managed to misplace the book. I suspect that I tried to put it into a pocket that I wasn't aware that I actually have. Unfortunately, since I don't actually know where the pockets were, it didn't actually get into any pocket. Let my instructor/dive buddy know, and we tried to find it where we had been. Sadly, it was nowhere to be found. So, I paid for it, but it's just _annoying_ that I did that. I mean, I'm not shocked; I'm prone to losing things if they don't have a home. And really, 'my hand' doesn't count. This is why I don't carry purses, ever. Anyway. Finished the dive, set up equipment for bringing it to be cleaned when I got on land.
Got back to land, rinsed my gear, and turned it in. Showered (OMG, my skin does _NOT_ like salt water plus any sort of clothing that can rub against my skin. So sad. My poor skin), used aloe, dressed, took my first pill & put on some cream, and went to go pay for the misplaced book. Paid for that and a dive log book, and got online. Tonight, food, then study a bit, then 9am class, and two more dives. I leave here at 5:30a on Thursday, then to San Pedro Sula for a day. 7am flight Friday to Miami, then Orlando, then Boston. Then home!
