Was too hungry and hot after figuring things out to send mail or post about it last night. Found food, then relaxed and read my study book.

My exercise-induced asthma gave them pause, but not having needed to use an inhaler in years means that it ought to be ok; also, I couldn't start with NAUI until today at 2, which means I have no time for my two free dives after I get certified. I apparently get a snorkle and mask instead; if I did PADI, I could have had time, but NAUI seems to be a better program. I unfortunately do not get a prescription mask, but they said that I ought to be able to get the lenses replaced at a dive store (prescription lenses costing about $100).

Slowly learning the local money, and how it translates to USD (1 USD = 18 Lempuras). Haven't yet found a grocery store, but with the inexpensiveness that is the prepared meals here, I'm not sure that I need to, either. Also, I have no cold storage location.

Got to do a bit of snorkling earlier today, which was nice both because it got me into the water (it's quite warm & humid, shockingly. ;) and because I got to see bunches of fish, albeit with non-prescription vision (the prescription masks are only available for dive classes). I haven't tried to use my underwater housing for my camera, largely because it's complicated, and I suspect that because I won't get to dive here after certification (stupid plane stuff!), I won't care as much. If I can't see what I'm taking a picture of, then taking one is silly. :)

The sand flies apparently decided my right shoulder was tasty at some point, so it's covered in red bite marks. Nowhere else as far as I can tell, though, and it doesn't seem to itch (which from what I understand is _AMAZING_ luck). They also don't seem particularly interested in biting me, at least as compared to other people. I do expect to return home covered in bite marks, though. :) I suspect that I often feel them as they are about to bite me, meaning that I can do something about it. Apparently not much works against them, including DEET, although sufficient baby oil to drown them may work. I'm not interested in trying that because the skin sensation would be _AWFUL_.

Fans do in fact seem to be enough to make it fine, at least for me. A/C not required. Of course, there was loud party music until late last night, although I think I finally slept before it stopped, between the noise of the fan and my earplugs. I was sharing a room with three other people, two men who went to bed around when I did, and a woman who partied until late. One of the men left early this morning, though.

Gonna go check my mail and read more of my study book before I hunt down lunch.
