Yes, another update

After Everglades, there was a visit to Key West.
This was the result, as far as I can tell, of poor communication. I want to go to the Keys, and they thought I wanted to go to a key badly enough to do a day trip. I was thinking a longer thing than that.
But, ok. So we took a boat ride to Key West. And then there was a really rough ride, involving sufficient nausea on my mom's part to request (and not use) a barf bag, and a fair bit of nausea on my part as well. Taking turns going out on the deck to get wind in our face helped, though, since the problem was in large part due to not having sufficient signals of movement with a _lot_ of movement happening. (as I believe is typical in motion sickness) Took about 3.5 hours.
Got there, did a 'train' (more like a tram, really) tour which was excellent, had lunch, got excellent key lime pie (which as far as I understand does not actually require key limes for the taste, just limes) then went back to the boat. Yes, that really is all we did. *sigh* And the trip back, while _much_ calmer because they went around the bad area, took a bit over 4 hours.
So yeah, rather frustrating. But hey, I've been oriented a bit, at least!

Next day around noon, since we were all exhausted from the loooong day, my mom stayed at home, and my dad and I went to the Rookery Bay Education Center.
Pretty neat place, although much of it was closed off due to it being the off-season here. Watched a woodpecker, which I heard since it's quite noisy, and then another joined it later on. Looked at a bunch of displays. We went to have lunch around 3 (late lunches here, for some reason!), which was nice. Then, back home as there was much tired. We went to a place with tasty seafood for dinner that evening, as well. Called a kayak place that we got info about from the Rookery, and made plans for Friday morning.

This morning my dad and I - my mom wanted to rest up for the kayak trip - went to the Conservancy of Southwest Florida. Visited the discovery center while we waited for noon, then went on a free boat trip at noon for about 45 minutes, and saw an osprey with a fish in its talons, a few turtles and fish, and a few other birds.
As per usual, the water was tea-colored due to the tannins from the mangrove leaves. This makes it rather difficult to see very much in the water, but must be fabulous for the critters whose young grow up there!
Returned to the discovery center, found out that urchins (specifics not recalled) move their spines if you touch them. I was surprised by that fact! Cool to watch, too. :)
Didn't see the baby loggerhead turtle, which may have been elsewhere for the moment.
Went home around 2:30 in order to have lunch _not_ out somewhere.
Had tasty food at dinner, my parents were extatic over their Austrian food, and my salad with tilapia on top was excellent as well.
Tomorrow, kayak nature tour. :)
