Yet another update!
Jun. 3rd, 2010 09:22 pmAlbuquerque pictures _finally_ uploaded. Sorted, but not all appropriately described yet. If anyone feels like helping with tagging, that's lovely, too. :)
[edited again to add: As I transcribe the written pieces of Tinkertown, I am reminded of the strong feel of my maternal grandfather I had when I was first there. I did not know him well, but I have - and re-read - his autobiography.]
Today's pictures are in the process of uploading, as well. [edited to add: and they are up! Not sorted at all, though, nor tagged.]
Today, after many errands, I went to El Malpais National Monument's visitor's center. The person at the counter strongly suggested doing the east side of the park around sunset, so that the light was better in general and for pictures. So, in the meantime, I went to the ice caves, decided to do El Morro and it's bunches of signatures on the way to Zuni Pueblo tomorrow, and went into town to do the Mining Museum (also visitor's center). At this point, in part due to having walked down that crazy path from Acoma Pueblo, my legs _really hurt_ (walking into the ice cave and back up those stairs did not help). So I went back to my room, worked more on getting the photos to upload and appropriately describing them, and rested. Around 6:20, I went to the east side of El Malpais. There are many pictures.
On the way back, I was surprised to see what was probably a deer, but perhaps an elk, near the edge of the road, behaving sort of strangely. Sure, it wasn't happy about me, but it kept trying to _walk_ through the fences on both sides of the road (to keep in the cattle), rather than jump it. After creeping forward a bit more, I realized that there was a baby deer (elk?) on the opposite side of the road, behind the fence there, calling for its mom.
At about this point, the adult lept over the fence on the opposite side of the road (perhaps to get me to follow it instead of the baby?), I took pictures and a brief video, and continued on my way so as to stop preventing them from reuniting and doing whatever they were trying to do when I interrupted with my car.
Also, I noticed that the squirrels here are much less likely to stop in the middle of the road. They _RUN_ the heck across.
And then, I came home, checked my upload (almost done!), and showered. After the shower, it was done, so I came into the office (where the signal is more consistent and stronger), and started this post.
I'm going to continue to modify the ABQ pictures now, while today's upload (iphoto's flickr plugin claims another 30 minutes).
Also, I really like the people at the place I'm staying in Grants. I will say which of the many hotels after I've moved on. :) The owner calls me Earth Lady because I'm traveling the earth. :)
