To Albuquerque I go!
May. 30th, 2010 08:56 amPhotos from Carlsbad and Alamogordo are up!
So, after all that set up so my photos would finish overnight? I forgot to turn off "sleep after an hour" on the laptop. I turned that off last night and had them finish overnight in truth. :)
The lateness of the night due to the photos the previous night meant I woke up pretty late (9? 9:30?), and got off to a late start.
Did a nature trail at White Sands, which was about a mile long. That was much easier, both due to not having all my gear, and to it being a _trail_ and therefore much less clambering over dunes. :)
Wandered through Truth or Consequences (ToC), which was not really worth the stop. I then went to the Very Large Array (VLA), which was absolutely worth the trip. It did, however, mean that I was not at the hostel until 9:30p, though, and that I texted
metahacker that I'd arrived around 11:30p his time. Much too late, but thankfully it did not wake him up.
Showered (for a place that is supposed to be hot and _dry_, it's not been that dry), and started the photos uploading. Then, there was sleep.
Photos!
Sleeping surprisingly well, I suspect due to how tired I am every night.
I miss my people quite a lot. At the same time, I love that I can do what I want, when I want, within reason (getting a place to sleep, for example, is important!).
I do miss having someone to point things out to, especially things that I know they will appreciate.
It's really interesting the reactions I get to the idea of a 2 month road trip. Some are envious. Some are flabbergasted. Some question my sanity. :)
Had a random border crossing checkpoint on the way up to ToC; was kind of strange. They were startled by the 2 month road trip thing. :)
