Mar. 8th, 2004 12:57 pmIn the 'there are too many things in my head right now' vein:
Traveling with
ladytabitha is a delightful experience. And the fact that she was willing to drive made the trip quite a bit more safe than it might otherwise have been, since I got basically no sleep all weekend (indeed, I think I got _less_ than I got during Arisia!).
msdenisewight pleases me, in many, many ways. If nothing else, she has all sorts of crazy stuff all over her living space. And she gave me freshly cut white sage and lavender! Also, there is very little more surreal than watching a couple of episodes of Five Go Mad in Dorset immediately after a very long day of traveling. Lashings of _anything_ is likely to cause giggle gits. Just so y'all are aware. :)
The magazines Bust and Ready Made please me greatly. Must get subscriptions!
Sacramento is pretty. Also, flat. And covered with trees! Trees are good. I think I like Sacramento. (None of the locations I was in this weekend was anywhere near long enough to be able to say much more than 'I think I like them'.)
San Fransisco is not somewhere one should ever attempt to drive to. Seriously. 17 (?) lanes for tolls, and _still_ we were not moving! On the plus side, leaving there sufficiently early on a Sunday is really, really easy. And foggy.
Fog is nifty, although a bit disturbing to drive through (look! We're all alone on this bridge!). There was an awful lot more fog than I am accustomed to. The strangest aspect of things as far as fog was the fact that it was bright and sunny out during the day, but foggy enough at night that it was difficult to see the moon.
I think San Fransisco is similar to Boston for me - somewhere I would enjoy living _near_, but not in. Not one for living in cities, me.
It was very odd seeing large numbers of buildings in the sides of hills. I'm not accustomed to seeing much of that - it tends to be quite a bit less frequent around here, I think.
I forgot to attempt to see a sunset over the water. Is ok, though - I most certainly plan to return to that area, as well as other areas of the west coast.
The weather in California was lovely. I'm highly entertained that it snowed here this morning. It's like Mass is welcoming me back. ;)
rosefox continues to be delightful, not that this fact surprised me. Actually getting some in-person time with
australian_joe makes me very happy, even if it _was_ too briefly (as expected, mind you). Meeting
sinboy and
mikz was enjoyable, although gaining any sort of useful sense of people on _no sleep_ makes life interesting. Still, they are quite cool. (Indeed, I don't think there was anyone I spent time with this weekend who _wasn't_ amazingly pleasant to be around)
ladytabitha took a picture of me on the plane on the way back - it's eventually going to become my 'exhausted' icon, I think. And it'll demonstrate why I felt the need to post that I was home safe last night. :)
I can't remember the context for these, but:
"You will be a giant monty python skit!", and "You invite one to giggle, just by existing" were both said by
ladytabitha during the course of the weekend.
I was on the ground in every single US time zone this weekend, although two of them were layovers and not actually leaving the airport.
Chicago, at least when it's not sunny out, is not a pleasant city. Of course, I never was under the impression I wanted to live there, in the first place. Do need to visit for more than just a layover, though - my youngest sister lives there. Also - it's not possible to have dinner outside of security in Chicago's Midway airport. Startlingly enough, all the non-snack food was inside security, or outside the airport. Oh well, I still got to chat with my sister. :)
Yes. Good weekend. Not long enough. Not enough sleep. But good. And, possibly relating to not having been home and around my roommate for four days, easily one of the more pleasant experiences that I've had in a while. Also relating to my normal 'look! New places!' squee reaction, and to nifty people, mind you. But, the break from my roommate was a bit more pleasing than I had expected. (must ping him to see how the other place to live search is going...)
