Second time through by carpet cleaner people appears to have made a significant difference in scent. At this point, I think airing the place out, Nature's Miracle w/black light, and baking soda, will be sufficient.
There is a skylight in my stairwell, which might be... interesting to reach, even with a ladder. I really want to be able to put a pulldown rolling blind thing up there, with the side against the window being reflective, and which would be able to be pulled down (and roll back up) using some sort of long hook (ie, without the need for a ladder or climbing on anything). This way, in summer, I can reduce the amount of heat coming in from the skylight by reflecting it back out, and in winter, I can leave it open for any additional heat available from the sun. I have no idea how feasible this is, but I _want_ it.
This place is _hot_ in summer. I think the other thing I really want to do is to create or find heavy curtains, where one side is white (or reflective), and the other side is black (or just dark). This way, the white (or reflective) side can be against the window in summer to reduce excessive heat on especially warm days. In winter, the black side can be facing out while I'm away at work, to catch any stray bits of solar heat, or if anyone is having trouble sleeping due to light levels. In both cases, the curtain can be pulled away from the window to let light in, if desired, and the heaviness goal is so that light gets blocked, for those who prefer to sleep in dark rooms and/or for better light blocking on especially hot days.
I have no idea if this is feasible, either. But I want it!
I'm also contemplating the idea of some sort of heavy curtain for the doorway of my bedroom. I have a door, but I tend to want to leave it at least a little bit open so my cat can get in and out, and a heavy curtain which leaves enough space at the bottom for a cat might block more sound than just mostly closing the door. Less strongly wanting this, as compared to the previous two ideas, though.
