Um. Ooookay...

Attempting to find a book with which to teach myself how to draw the things inside my head has only managed to give me an awful lot of links to stuff about austism. Now, I'm not *that* surprised, but it's kinda annoying. I *know* I have aspergers traits (believed to be a mild form of autism), now please tell me how to let other people see what's in my head!

*grumbles* I need different words for my google search...

OK, I'm not sure I'm barking up the right tree, but a *great* book/workbook for learning to draw freely, expressively and with confidence is Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/ref=s_sf_b_as/002-4299072-6302467), by Betty Edwards. It's been around for a while, and I see there's a new edition out.

Y'know, I think I've used that, as a child. But I don't remember it having me draw things I wasn't actually looking at... I'm good at *that*, with appropriate amounts of time (although not with drawing people).

Maybe I didn't stick with it long enough.

It definitely emphasizes drawing what you see, but I've found that the techniques and exercises free up my hand enough that it becomes easier to draw what I see on the *inside* of my eyeballs, too.

Ever try drawing with your eyes shut? You need a big sheet of paper, but it can produce interesting results.

Huh. No, I don't think I have. I must try that! Nifty...

Just look real closely at those inner pictures and let your hand do the rest. (-:

It's called "high-functioning autism" because we can cover it up enough to fool most of you :P

Heh. Or, that!

It tends to mostly come across as being slightly off, rather than dramatically *wrong*.

As well, even within Aspergers, there is variation in degree, and appropriate coping mechanisms can be taught to aid with functioning in society.
