Because someone claimed that they never have their palms or bottoms of feet sweat, and I was utterly flabbergasted:

My palms do sweat, but only when I'm nervous; temperature has nothing to do with it. I don't think my feet ever sweat, but it could be that they do when I'm nervous and I just don't notice. Then again, the bottoms of my feet are so thoroughly calloused that I've probably sealed off any potential sweat exit.

I'm the same with palms - heat doesn't seem to have anything to do with it, The main time they'll sweat is if I'm up high somewhere, or in a movie or video game where there is a view from a great height. I don't get hard core vertigo, but my hind brain does react to it by making my palms go very hot and sweaty.

With feet, I assume that as my socks are slightly damp after a workout session that they do indeed sweat :)

This just goes to show, when you are trying to blend in on an alien planet, always make sure you know what you are talking about before saying something detailed like that. It could totally blow your cover, and next thing you know people are noticing the bad make-up job you did on your gill slits and running around screaming.

My hands only sweat if I'm holding something.

Palms sweat when nervous, not when I'm hot. Everything *else* sweats when I'm hot :-}.

My feet sweat in shoes if they're hot but not otherwise. My palms only if I'm *very* hot, usually and holding something or with my palms on something (like, say, my yoga mat, annoyingly).

It takes nervousness for my palms to sweat, and extreme measures to get my feet to sweat significantly.

My hands are my primary radiant surface, in both thermal and stressful situations. During intense discussions, I am often caught blowing on my hands to reduce discomfort.

My palms only sweat noticeably if it's very hot and I have to hold onto something. (Obviously this suggests that they sweat when I'm not grasping something but the sweat evaporates quickly enough that I can't tell.)

I have no idea if the bottoms of my feet sweat. The only time I notice that my feet are damp from sweat, they've been enclosed inside shoes, and I can't really tell where on my feet it came from.

Were you watching that ST:TNG rerun about Riker yesterday?

No, why, did he turn out to be an alien? My current unhealthy obsession with gill slits is the fault of Stephen Jay Gould.

Ahh. Okay. Just a bizarre coincidence.

You mean you don't just have an unhealthy obsession with people being aliens all on your own?!

Huh. Regardless of temperature? Or only when it's hot?

True. And now I'm wondering if I notice it as much when it's hot but not humid...

Regardless of temperature. It's rather annoying. Takes a while, at least, so if I toss something I'm supposed to be holding from hand to hand it's alright.

Damn!

Yes, that would be very annoying. Huh. Huh!

Ironically, my feet sweat a LOT more when they're restricted by socks and shoes than when they're bare. This is only partially due to lack of ventilation, because there are many winter days when I'm freezing cold and my feet are freezing cold AND ALSO sweating like crazy, which just makes them more cold and miserable. I think it has something to do with circulation, because going barefoot even when it's cold out makes them drier and hence warmer. *shrug*

Yes, for values of "hot" including anything above Really Cold.

Huh! Is this because you sweat even when it's cold out, or because your extremities are specifically likely to be sweating?

Extremities, specifically. They never stop. It sucks.

Well, I was curious to follow up on this as well. It turns out that the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet have the most sweat glands, of one type, of anywhere on the body! At least according to this (http://health.howstuffworks.com/sweat.htm) article. Huh, I guess my memory is a bit faulty about bodily events. The article also notes that people sweat on the palms and forehead when nervous. I suspect I am paying attention to something else and don't remember about the palm sweating when nervous. That and I don't get nervous all that often. *shrug*
