The real estate agent, at one point during the explanation of the lease and such, asked me if I had an English accent. And no, I don't believe I said 'bloody' at any point during the conversation.

I _still_ can't figure out what caused that. I may have my very own accent, but... English?

My kitty is stressed. He's _not_ liking all the boxes and packing in his territory, nor the fact that my schedule is even less regular than normal. Poor kitty...

Hopefully finishing the move will help!

All sorts of fun with utilities. Most notably, apparently I won't have DSL in the new place until 10 days after the phone is turned on. Meh.

2 days! (and [livejournal.com profile] australian_joe is apparently far too amused by being at NYC's Linux World)

Beep!

I get that all the fucking time. Codeman...whatever the numbers are attributes this to "autistic accent syndrome".

Huh!

I must spend even less time around neurotypical people than I thought (that, or they don't feel like they can ask), as I've never gotten that question before.

Crazy...

Someone you were conversing with /asked/ you if you had an English accent? One would think they would be able to tell, from, you know, hearing you speak. Argh!

Heh, well, since I _don't_ have an English accent, that'd be difficult to just know.

I think that was an attempt to determine what my accent was, actually. :)

Well, that was my point. It is immediately apparent upon first hearing your voice that you do not have any of the following accents:
  • English
  • Russian
  • Southern
  • Klingon
  • Hungarian
  • Maine
  • German
  • Poodle
I could go on, but I think you get the point. :)

Identifying what exactly your accent is, now that would be more difficult.

*laugh* I want a poodle accent!

Indeed.

That would be rough.

Geeks are known for over-enunciating, prolabialization (rounding vowels more than usual), and for _not_ picking up subtle regional distinctions in accent. I suspect you would find some other things going on, possibly with the position of the tongue root.

I think 'danes have this tendency to think anyone who enunciates a lot must be British.

... *light dawning* Huh!

Ok, I can see this.

Yay, explanation!

I've seen that, actually!

(my very first thought when reading your replies was 'yay, linguists!' *amused*)

But I hadn't really thought about how that might relate to people asking me if I have an English accent. :)

hmmm oh fun. i'm just getting used to people thinking i have an accent down here :). it's sorta weird, as i have a very nearly mid-west Canadian accent which can be mistaken for American if you don't listen too closely.

sorry to hear your kitty isn't taking the move so well.
