Ow! My brain! Fuckin' slippery words...

[livejournal.com profile] theferrett converses about what lawful good means.

Ow. This is _so_ the kind of discussion I avoid being involved in, but that doesn't make it not interesting. It just means it's utterly alien to how I think and makes my head hurt.

I had to peek at this link. Some number of years ago I would have gleefully jumped in with my opinion. Not so much anymore. Human motivation and behavior are for more complex then can be explained by a 3x3 grid of alignments. Attempts to force characters actions to fit within one grid spot are often counterproductive to good roll playing, though can sometimes can lead to potentially interesting discussions like the one you linked to.

Can you explain in what way it's alien?

Or is that question itself alien? *grin*

Because...

I have amazing difficulty with attempting to describe something with so much variation in so few words as those required for D&D alignment.

Because I'm not very good at (and have no interest in) things which feel like rules-lawyering.

Because I tend to be very bad at explaining the 'whys' of anything which is people-related in general, but not specific to one person-related. I'm much better with specifics than generalities. (I suspect this is actually the main reason for all of this - specifics vs generalities)
